Chapter 3 Casper Needs a Child

  • Since Ethel had said so, Natalie dared not disobey her. The others in the hall were the same as they ceased their discussion, albeit still looking at Natalie unfavorably. However, Natalie paid them no mind and greeted the other elders of the family under Ethel's guidance. Ethel was slightly surprised when she saw Natalie acting prim and proper without being intimidated.
  • "Old Mrs. Langston, I did not plan to speak of this on such an occasion. However, we do not know how long the company would last with Casper's current condition. The company must have someone managing it. I suggest we elect a new person to take charge of the company for now. We can always return the company to Casper when he has recovered."
  • Natalie turned her attention to the voice to find that the speaker was a middle-aged man. Ethel had introduced him to Natalie as Casper's fourth uncle, Henry Langston.
  • "Henry has a point. Should Casper's condition take a turn for the worse, what would become of the company?" The audience echoed the sentiment.
  • Ethel then said coldly, "There's nothing wrong with Casper. Furthermore, he's already married. When Natalie is pregnant with his child, the Langston Group would have its rightful heir by then."
  • "Pregnant with his child?" Henry's eyes turned cold briefly before he asked, "Old Mrs. Langston, do you think that woman there can be pregnant with his child given Casper's current condition?"
  • Noticing the change in Ethel's expression, Henry was very pleased with himself. Although she had covered up the truth of the matter, he had still gotten wind of Casper's condition. This was his ace in the hole. Since he knew she would not want the truth to be leaked, she would have to make concessions to keep his mouth shut. So what if Casper is great and all? What can a vegetable like him do against me?
  • "Who told you that Casper can't make Natalie pregnant?" Ethel cast a sideway glance at him before she sneered, "Naturally, matters between a married couple should stay between the two."
  • As expected of Old Mrs. Langston, she has shifted the topic to me, Natalie thought. With everyone's watchful gaze on her, her cheeks instantly flushed. However, she knew that this moment was her opportunity. Acting somewhat embarrassed, she lowered her head slightly before she said, "Last night, Casper was… a little tired. He wanted to accompany me back here today, but I asked him to take a rest as I felt sorry for him. When he's all rested, we will invite everyone to our home if you all would like to meet him."
  • Instantly, Henry's face had a twisted expression, as he wasn't thick-skinned enough to question the affairs between a married couple.
  • With that, the matter with the company was put to rest. Since Henry's plan had failed and the man himself had shown no other indication of a backup plan, Natalie heaved a sigh of relief and was about to leave, but was stopped by Ethel.
  • With her eyes on Natalie, Ethel thought to herself that Natalie's performance today was completely out of her expectations. For a family that could not even reach the upper echelon of this city to have given birth to such a resolute daughter. Then, she said calmly without a change in her tone, "You are good."
  • Sitting in a proper manner, Natalie was unsure of what to say, so she remained silent.
  • "Casper needs a child. Are you willing to bear his?"
  • "Huh?" Natalie uttered. She should know about Casper's condition, so how am I supposed to be pregnant with his child?
  • With her eyes still on Natalie, Ethel said, "When Casper was twenty years old, he had frozen three vials of his best sperm in one of the companies under the Langston Family. Are you willing to conceive an heir for him, for the Langston Family? If you agree, I can give you your freedom along with a sum of money when Casper is no longer with us, regardless of the baby's gender. After that, you can complete your education, or even go abroad to further your study. The Langston Family will spare no effort in helping you to do so."
  • As it was a very tempting offer, Natalie hadn't the slightest hesitation when she said, "I agree. But, I want to add a condition of my own. I want both the Hartwell Family and the Lewis Family to go bankrupt."
  • It was already midnight when Natalie came back to Hillside Villa. Although Natalie was already exhausted after she finished washing up, she continued Casper's treatment as she administered the needles on his body. She could not stop the treatment halfway through the moment it started. Otherwise, not only would Casper not recover, but he would even suffer a backlash.
  • When Natalie was done with Casper's treatment, her phone rang once more with 'Justin' as the caller ID. Hundreds of messages in just a day, does that man have nothing else to do? she thought as she blacklisted Justin's number on her phone. After that, she turned her attention to Casper. Although he was still comatose, the man's face was still very good-looking. With his long eyelashes, he must look very good when he smiles. With such thoughts, she lifted the corners of the man's mouth to form a smile on his face.
