• Hours after Melody's father dropped the bombshell on her, she slept soundly in my arms inside the cave. She had refused to go to my parents' place, and ours was a no because it had to be cleaned yet after Daisy bled in the dining and living rooms. I couldn't sleep because I was supposed to be out there searching for Gwen personally, but at the same time I couldn't because I needed to be with Melody.
• I couldn't settle until I knew that she would not be a threat to us. I remembered my mom and Astra talking about the protection spell being weak. That explained why it was easier for her to sneak in rogues without being noticed. It was time to cast another one, and I wasn't going to wait any longer. So while Melody slept, I spoke to my mother and Astra to cast a spell.
