Chapter 13 Reporting a Cheater!

  • Amelia Snyder
  • As I was about to speak, Angelica stood up from her seat and uttered, "Mr. Flores, I'm afraid there might be a mistake. There's no way that Amelia scored the highest out of all of us. She even got full marks on her English test. That's absurd!"
  • "That's right. Amelia could have never scored the highest among us," a student said. "I don't buy it either. It would be a miracle if she could pass the test," another student continued. "She must have cheated in the tests! Get out of Sierra High School, cheater!" Debates and arguments sounded in the classroom.
  • Everyone glared at me dejectedly as they proceeded to ridicule me.
  • "Amelia, how did this happen?" Luna whispered to me.
  • I remained silent.
  • "Everyone, keep your mouths shut! The teacher hasn't said anything, so stop it with all that nonsense!" Castor insisted. The students gradually ended their chattering. I glanced at Castor as it was my first time seeing him getting angry. I found his stance to be quite attractive.
  • Mr. Flores frowned as he was in a difficult position. "Please have a seat," he said to Angelica. However, Angelica remained persistent and said, "Mr. Flores, I don't believe Amelia managed to score full marks on her English test! I helped her out in the previous lessons. As the class monitor, I have faith in my classmates. I don't think that she cheated. Perhaps there was a mistake in the names?"
  • "Everyone, the education system in the villages doesn't mean that it's inferior to the education system here at Sudbury City. I hope all of you will treat your classmates from the villages without prejudice." Mr. Flores responded earnestly.
  • "Mr. Flores, I don't believe it either," I muttered.
  • Everyone stared at me as they were taken aback.
  • "Amelia, what's the matter? Didn't you admit that you obtained these results righteously back at the office?" Mr. Flores questioned. I stood up as I finally got the chance to speak up. "Mr. Flores, I would like to know why I've only scored 144 marks on the Spanish test and 146 marks on the mathematics test. There must've been a blunder!" I asked.
  • These marks felt unacceptable to me. I studied for the mathematics tournament back at Morania for so long; there was no way that I only scored 146 marks on the mathematics test.
  • The students glared at me once again as my question provoked them. Mr. Flores clapped his hands and said, "Alright everyone, calm down. All of you will know the mistakes that you've made once you receive your answer sheets this afternoon."
  • After finishing his words, he allowed Angelica to distribute the transcripts. Everyone would then be allowed to adjust their seats within the classroom according to the rankings. I had the privilege to choose my seat first but I decided to remain at my current spot.
  • "Amelia, your grades are amazing, yet you still decided to be seated next to me." Luna was moved by my decision. "Oh Luna, I'm not as great as you are. To be frank, my grades are just average. It was just dumb luck." I teased her.
  • Something dawned on me as I sat down. I could have changed my seat to the last row where I could get the full view of the class. Moreover, I could have changed Castor's seat to be right in front of mine. I regret letting this opportunity go to waste.
  • This first lesson swiftly went by. As I was taking a nap on the table, the chattering about me began once again. My results were known in all of Sierra High School. I became the topic of discussion. However, I could not care less.
  • "Amelia, did you do the tests legitimately?" Castor and Luna asked. They stared at my answer sheets astonishingly. Luna held my Spanish test answer sheet and said, "Amelia, your writing is too good to be true."
  • "Hm? I used to get zero marks for my essays." I replied casually. "Then how did you score so well this time?" Luna asked. Her hands trembled as she held on to the answer sheet.
  • "The answers popped up in my dream the night before. It's purely coincidental." I answered.
  • Angelica Snyder
  • Angelica was still skeptical about Amelia, so she filed a report with Ms. Thornhill. The two of them met the principal in his office. Mr. Flores was present as well.
  • "Mr. Odin, what do you plan to do about this incident?" Angelica asked. "We do not tolerate behaviors such as cheating here at Sierra High School. If a student is deemed guilty, they shall be expelled at once." Mr. Odin answered.
  • "Mr. Odin, Amelia is a transfer student and you know her behavior. However, she crossed the line this time!" Ms. Thornhill uttered. Mr. Odin frowned and asked Mr. Flores, "Are Amelia's results legit?"
  • Mr. Flores shook his head and answered, "I'm not sure." Ms. Thornhill continued, "Mr. Odin, Amelia is my student. I am fully aware of her capabilities. The fact that she managed to score full marks is highly suspicious. We have to get to the bottom of this."
  • The principal phoned the teacher-in-charge during the test. Angelica and Ms. Thornhill gave each other a gloated glance. The teacher-in-charge arrived after a few minutes and reported to Mr. Odin. "Mr. Odin, Amelia left a strong impression, but I'm certain that there were no signs of cheating."
  • "That's impossible." Ms. Thornhill said. She continued, "Amelia is from the village, there's no way that she could rank the highest amongst the students." The principal was losing his patience. He said, "Ms. Thornhill, do you have any evidence to support your accusation?"
  • "The evidence that we're looking for is Amelia's answer sheet! We can compare it to the answer scheme," Angelica uttered. Ms. Thornhill continued, "Mr. Odin, our school's reputation will be jeopardized if we let a cheater go unpunished!"
  • Mr. Odin nodded and made an announcement through the campus broadcast system.
