Chapter 10 Meeting Benjamin Again

  • Amelia Snyder
  • In the blink of an eye, it was Friday. I was going about my daily routine of playing games when
  • Castor leaned in close and said, "Amelia, have you forgotten what day it is today? How can you still be in the mood to play games?"
  • "What's wrong?" I asked, my brow furrowed.
  • Castor exclaimed, "It's Friday, which means exam day! Amelia, you need to take this seriously. I heard that any students who fail this time will be assigned to the worst class."
  • Even though I had completely forgotten about the exams, I was not concerned. "A change in environment may not be a bad idea. At the very least, I won't have to deal with the annoying English teacher, Ms. Thornhill."
  • Castor lamented, "How am I to survive without you, Amelia?"
  • I shrugged helplessly in response to his remarks. It made no difference which class I was assigned. It was more important to demonstrate my worth to those who dismissed me.
  • Soon, our homeroom teacher briefed us on the administrative details for the examination. Everyone had to clear their belongings, leaving only our empty desks in the classroom.
  • The first exam was in Spanish. I quickly went through the paper, and to my surprise, the difficulty level was lower than I had anticipated. I had assumed that an elite school like Sierra High would assign difficult examination papers. However, the questions were so simple that I could finish them without needing to revise the subject.
  • I plastered a smile while attempting the questions because they were too simple. After working on it for a short while, I kept my stationeries and set my head down on the table to rest.
  • I had barely rested for two minutes before I was interrupted by a knock on my table.
  • The invigilator scowled as he lectured, "I have heard about your poor attitude. Please take the exams seriously."
  • I replied lazily, "I have already finished it."
  • My classmates burst out laughing when they heard my reply. I was perplexed by their response because I had finished the paper even though the two-hour exam still had an hour left.
  • "Haha! How can she complete it so quickly? She must be planning to submit a blank paper."
  • "This is so funny! What a dumb newbie!"
  • The invigilator bellowed, "Silence! Anyone who is talking will have their exam papers confiscated."
  • When there was half an hour left in the exam, I stood up and handed in my papers to the invigilator before leaving the room.
  • Many students expressed dissatisfaction with the difficulty of the Spanish exam.
  • "Why are the questions so challenging? I'm definitely going to fail the exam."
  • "I hope that I'm not the last in class."
  • "Don't worry! The village bumpkin will sure be the last in class."
  • I scoffed when I heard the students' demeaning comments. I was eager to see their reactions when the results were out.
  • Castor was the first person to look for me after the examinations. I went over when I heard him calling.
  • "How did it go, Amelia?" he inquired.
  • "It was all right," I replied.
  • We completed three exams today: Spanish, Math, and English. I was unable to use my phone the entire day, and when I finally did, I realized that there were a few unread messages and missed calls.
  • One of the missed calls was from Gerald. I put on my wireless earphone and called him.
  • "What's the matter?" I asked.
  • He replied worriedly, "I'm finally able to reach you, Ames. Why was your phone turned off the whole day?"
  • I said flatly, "Exams."
  • Gerald said apologetically, "I'm sorry. I've forgotten that you're now a student."
  • "Why did you call?" I inquired.
  • He explained, "Do you recall the old man with the beer belly from the auction house? He requested to speak with you."
  • I narrowed my eyes. "Didn't I say to reject him?"
  • "Are you sure, Ames? You're free to set the price," Gerald reminded.
  • "Reject him," I repeated.
  • "All right, I'll inform him," Gerald replied helplessly before hanging up the call.
  • A short while later, it started to pour.
  • I could not help but think about the man at the mention of the auction house. When he was trapped in the cage, I found myself somewhat intrigued by him. I vaguely remember that he's called Benjamin Cohen. Hold on a second. Why am I thinking about him? I aim to be the most powerful wolf host. I don't need a partner! Love will only hinder me from success.
  • I slapped myself on the cheek to shake myself out of my foolish thoughts. Seeing that it was raining heavily, I decided to take a cab home. To my horror, there were about a hundred passengers in line ahead of me.
  • "Why am I so unlucky?" I grumbled.
  • "Someone's here, Amelia," Venus cautioned.
  • I glanced through the pouring rain and saw a black limited-edition Rolls-Royce parked nearby.
  • "Stop the car!" A familiar man's voice called out. He got out of the car and walked toward me.
  • I was on high alert for the approaching stranger. Before I could react, the man wrapped his arms around me and pulled me back into his embrace. He became slightly annoyed at my struggles. "Do you like being in the rain?"
  • I could not figure out why Benjamin had suddenly appeared in front of me. Furthermore, he even hugged me.
  • "Why do you care?" I challenged. I was uneasy being in such proximity to a man I had only met twice.
  • Benjamin warned, "Stop moving! Do you know that getting caught in the rain can make you sick?"
  • His reprimand left me speechless. During my training years, I had been through worse conditions and suffered worse injuries.
  • "Let me down!" I shrieked. Despite my protests, Benjamin carried me to the car.
  • "Send us back to the Cohen residence," he told the chauffeur once we got into the car.
  • I glanced at him and hissed, "Who said I was going to follow you home?"
  • "Are you certain you don't want to go to the Cohen residence? Do you intend to inform your parents that we met at the auction house?" the man reminded.
  • I thought, damn it, he's right! It'll be disastrous if my parents learn of my identity.
  • I chose to ignore Benjamin for the rest of the journey. However, his chauffeur started to converse with me. "Why were you out in the rain? You look like a student. Did you fail your exams or were you punished by the teacher?"
  • I shifted my gaze to the window and chose to remain silent. The chauffeur coughed lightly and continued to concentrate on driving.
  • We soon arrived at the Cohen residence. I reluctantly followed Benjamin's lead and went into the house.
  • When we reached the living room, the servants immediately gathered to greet Benjamin. Judging by their astonished looks, I wondered if this was Benjamin's first time bringing a woman home.
  • "What are all of you staring at?" Benjamin asked icily as he cast a quick glance over the servants. They regained their senses and proceeded to make the necessary preparations for me.
  • "I'll cook some hot soup."
  • "I'll prepare a hot bath."
  • "I'll prepare a fresh set of clothes."
