Chapter 26 The Weakening

• Naomi and Mildred had never been more united in their ambitions. Their shared goal of taking control of McCloud Company had solidified their alliance, and they worked seamlessly to ensure William's health continued to decline. Naomi's role was to keep up the charade of the concerned daughter, while Mildred focused on positioning herself as the natural successor to the company’s leadership.
• William’s condition had deteriorated significantly. He spent most of his days in a state of exhaustion, struggling to stay awake for more than a few hours at a time. His once sharp mind now seemed clouded and confused, much to the satisfaction of his scheming daughter and granddaughter.
• One morning, as Naomi prepared William’s breakfast, she added the usual dose of sedative to his oatmeal. Mildred watched from the doorway, a satisfied smile playing on her lips.
