• As soon as Jane left, I rushed to the bedroom and dressed up. I rushed to the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face, before washing it and drying with a towel. While I dried my face gently, I called out for one of my personal maids who was in the kitchen preparing my breakfast. “Sarah, come and get my dress.”
• In less than a minute, Sarah was in the bedroom. Although I had always tried to be nice to her, she always seemed panic stricken. Her previous slave master had traumatized her so much she was unable to believe there were good people in the world.
