• I took the contract from Elaine’s hands and jammed it into the back pocket of my jeans. “Or we could say that it is irrevocable and indestructible until the witch who owns the enchanted scroll chooses to take the spell off. That way, it will all depend on you. You can refuse to do it, and if he becomes violent with you, he fails the test.”
• Elaine looked at me with narrowed eyes. Her face didn’t hold back to express the detestation she felt for my plan. “Don’t drag me into this. I have already refused to return the contract once, and your incubus smashed glass everywhere in my energy room. Did that change your mind? Or do you believe whatever excuse he had for that?”
