Chapter 24 A Cry For Help
- Serenity felt a pang of guilt and embarrassment wash over her. She knew Atticus was right; she didn’t belong in the castle. She had come to the castle as a substitute bride, but after being rejected by Atticus, she was sneaking around like a thief. She wondered what Atticus must think of her now.
- “I'm sorry, I didn’t mean to be disrespectful,” Serenity apologized, feeling the weight of shame settle upon her.
- “It doesn’t matter!” Atticus's voice was cold and cutting, like a slap in the face. “Even without seeing you, I can’t stand being in the same room with you.” With that, he turned his wheelchair and deliberately left the kitchen, heading down the hallway.
