• Janet’s mind was a whirlpool of thoughts as she sat by her apartment window with a cup of black coffee in her hand. The rain outside seemed to mirror the turmoil in her heart. Each drop that hit the window pane echoed the words of the conversation she had with the chief.
• “You’re off this mission,” the chief said and Janet widened her eyes.
• “What? Bu… why?” The shock was an understatement on her face. “I joined the police force for this day, and now when it’s finally here, you’re kicking me out?”
