Chapter 39
- ALPHA HARDEN POV
- Leaving her back there was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I could still see her face in my mind, those big, beautiful eyes looking right at me. My chest ached, and I wanted to close the distance between us, to wrap her in my arms. I wanted to kiss the scar on her face and tell her she didn't have to worry about anything ever again. She could just trust me, lean on me for a little while, and let me take care of her while she figured things out. But I knew she would push me away, just like she always did.
- I had to act fast. I had so little time to convince her to break off this fake engagement and marry me instead. And it was a sham, I knew it. All through lunch, Dawn and Lisa couldn't keep their eyes off each other. He barely even looked at Alicia. It was obvious he was attracted to her best friend. And there was no chemistry between Dawn and Alicia, none at all. It was all a front, a silly game she was playing to try and throw me off. But I wasn't buying it. Not for a second.
