- "I just need a little time. Please." I ran my hands through my hair, feeling the tight knot in my stomach. The air in my father's office was so thick, and heavy with unsaid disappointment. It felt like I was a boy again, caught with my hand in the cookie jar.
- My father, Alpha Hilson, looked at me like I was a stranger. "Time? You lost the right to ask for anything when you ran away right after the engagement party. What's wrong with you, Harden?" He looked me up and down, his eyes sharp and full of questions. "You're the most responsible one of all my kids. You don't just do things without thinking, unlike your younger brother here."
