Chapter 39 Gianna
- I had not been able to shake the fact that it was likely Mason’s friend who had been standing right behind Tavi and me in the queue in the coffee shop, and more than likely listening in to our conversation. I am sure that was who he was. I had thought I recognized his face the moment he walked into the coffee shop. But, while his face looked vaguely familiar, I had been unable to place it, because the night I had seen him my main focus had been Mason. But, the more I thought of it, I was sure it was Mason's friend. And, I was more and more sure he had heard more than I would have wanted him to. No, I think it was almost a certainty that he was listening in, considering he almost choked at Tavi's inappropriateness.
- My mind had been distracted all the way through my shift, unable to help myself but ponder whether his friend would have told Mason what he had heard. And when that wasn’t on my mind, my eyes were back and forth to the door, wondering why Mason hadn’t decided to come and visit… he had said he would be back... although that had admittedly been before I had run out on him, leaving him no doubt humiliated, and sitting alone in a restaurant.
- The crazy thing was, I knew Mason had a life. I knew he had business. And, in reality, I knew I had acted out of order, so why he would even think of returning to see me was beyond me, but for some reason I could not stop my eyes wandering hopefully to the door. Desperate to catch a glimpse of him walking through the door. But for the entirety of my shift there was nothing. Not a sign of him. And I felt oddly disappointed, and it felt horrendous...
