• The battle was still on even as we took off into the forest. Each time I lunged forward, tearing into Nate’s soldiers, another would take its place, blocking my path, pushing me back. I couldn’t see Olivia anymore. I couldn’t smell her, couldn’t hear her. She was gone.
• The image of Nate dragging her limp body into the forest replayed over and over in my mind, feeding the fire of my fury. I slashed through fur and bone, breaking bodies as I fought to free myself from this relentless horde. My men were by my side, battling with everything they had, but we were outnumbered, and they were organized, clearly prepared for this.
