• The morning air in the palace was thick with tension. Olivia and I stood side by side in the great hall, scanning the faces of our soldiers, servants, and council members. The recent events had rattled both of us—Kim’s escape from the dungeon was a clear sign that we had a traitor in our midst. The precision with which she was rescued, the knowledge of the guards’ rotations and defenses, suggested that this was no mere coincidence. Someone inside the palace was working with her. Someone was betraying us.
• Olivia’s eyes glimmered with restrained fury. Whoever it was, they were still out there, possibly feeding information to Nate. This could be a huge blow to our plans if we didn’t act fast.
