Chapter 1

  • Luna Olivia’s Perspective
  • ………..
  • I could not move. I looked into Nate's unblinking eyes as the intense anguish in my chest threatened to devour me.
  • "I reject our bond, Olivia. "I want you out of my life," he cried out.
  • His words tore through me like glass shards, shattering and devasting me on an emotional level.
  • The manner in which his words came out tore me apart? I felt weak, and an anguished cry came out of me before I could control it. The trees surrounding us appeared to lean in, mocking my suffering with their indifference.
  • His mouth twisted with contempt. "Did you really believe a pathetic werewolf like you could keep an alpha like me happy indefinitely?" "You must be delusional."
  • Tears clouded my vision, something vital inside me starting to shrivel and die. Was he really going to break the mystical tie we made at the full moon, our souls intertwined, our fates sealed? Will you please leave me alone?
  • "P-please..." I could hardly have whispered. "We are fated mates, our bond eternal, blessed by the Goddess herself..."
  • He gave a harsh laugh. "Do not drag me into your crazy and unrealistic ideas. I got tired of your vulnerability a long time ago, Luna."
  • The rasping sound of my name on his tongue caused me to tremble as if his rejection had poisoned the very center of my being. A violent agony erupted within me, and a clear reminder of the frequent rejection I had endured. Everyone dislikes Luna, who is an orphan. My only hope was my mate, but even he had rejected me.
  • I must have dropped to the forest floor because the next thing I knew, the heavy roots of an old tree were pressing hard on my cheeks.
  • I cried as my hands desperately dug at the damp ground, going deep. I felt every feeble breath as if it were a dagger stuck in my heart, a painful reminder that I was still here, miserable and alone.
  • Why?
  • Why did the world allow me to survive with everyone else in such a cruel way? The only people who have showed me any concern were brutally killed. I have lived a lonely existence ever since my parents were slaughtered in front of my eyes.
  • I thought I had finally found solace and peace with someone, that we would be together forever, bound by destiny. How could our bond be so cruelly shattered and broken?
  • Hearing the sound of Nate's footsteps felt like another blow to the last shred of my confidence. I couldn't take the sight of his taunting, mocking expression any longer and forced my eyes shut tightly.
  • "Don't be shocked, little Luna. Be honest with yourself, do you think you were worthy of being the pack's alpha?" His statements were full of contempt and hatred. "You are a pitiful excuse for a werewolf." Weak and Fragile. "Unfit for my powerful lineage."
  • Nate's bodyguards booted me hard, knocking me to the ground. The physical pain was excruciating, but the deep grief and emptiness within me ached far more.
  • Tears streamed from the corners of my tightly closed eyes as I tried in vain to block out his cruel torment. My wolf's whispers echoed through my bones, resonating with the pain within me. It felt like another part of me, the broken part, was awake and suffering the same agony.
  • "Just die, you sniveling bitch," he spat with such venom that it felt like a death sentence.
  • In that moment, I wished more than anything to simply cease to exist.
  • The sounds of Nate's footsteps and the rustling leaves grew quieter as he walked away, leaving me utterly alone. I was overwhelmed by intense feelings of hopelessness and despair, which wrapped around my heart like a freezing, deathly grip.
  • With anguish, I struggled to my feet, my legs barely supporting me. After several attempts, I managed to drag myself toward Alpha Nate's place. I needed to collect a few of my belongings from there so I could begin to rebuild my life.
  • As I approached the entrance, Kim stood there, blocking my way.
  • “I knew you’d bring your stupid self here again,” she snarled.
  • “Please, I’m just here to pick up my things. I won’t stay long.”
  • I bowed my head and started to move when I felt her shove me to the ground.
  • “It’s not enough that you killed your parents. You think you can take Nate from me?” she yelled. “Thank goodness he realized it and rejected you.”
  • Kim had always been a wicked wolf, obsessed with Nate since they were young.
  • “Please, I promise I will never return here again,” I begged, kneeling on the ground.
  • After a few minutes of pleading, she finally let me in. I gathered my things and turned to leave.
  • Kim and Nate stood at the entrance, waiting for me to come out.
  • “What the hell are you doing here?” Nate roared.
  • “I… I came to pick up my…”
  • “Shut the fuck up!” Kim roared, acting as if she hadn’t just let me in.
  • "You're going to be punished for disobeying me," Nate stated, lashing me with a heavy rope. I yelled in anguish as Kim encouraged him.
  • Just as he was going to attack me again, a voice yelled, "STOP!"
  • With tears in my eyes, I looked up to see where the voice was coming from.
  • Alpha Nate's twin brother, Bustane, was there with a strong voice.
  • Nate paused and dropped the rope, and Kim bent her head.
  • Bustane, the older one and the Lycan king, told them to let me leave.
  • Shaking from head to toe, I ran away in fear. I ran unlike anything I had ever run.
  • I thought only of death—death, death, death. I was going to blow it all away. No matter where my parents were, I was going to be with them.
  • I ran for what seemed like an eternity, and when I came to a precipice, I decided to end it all. I inhaled deeply and leaped over the brink.
