Chapter 6 Leo

  • Leo's POV
  • “Come, son. I have something to show you” My grandmother’s voice had pulled me away from my thought and back to reality with her hands tugging at me to follow her after some of her friends and guest had already left.
  • “Okay, grandma. What is it” I asked curiously, wondering what she has to show me. I mean, today is her birthday. If there is anyone who should be getting surprises is her not me but she looked hell bent and I have no choice but to follow her.
  • I sighed and got back on my feet and began to follow her and she led us back into the hallway leading to her room. Memories of me running along this very corridor, playing hide and seek with my dad years ago flood into my mind as we continued to walk further down the hallway.
  • Pictures taken from my high school days trail the white painted wall. My eyes caught a particular one from my college graduation with both my parent smiling brightly beside me. I could still remember it all like it was just yesterday.
  • The proud look on my dad's face made me feel proud of my own little achievement. He hugged me so tight that my feet almost came off the ground while my mom only pepper me with kisses over and over again. I remember my friends trolling me over my mom’s public display of affection.
  • I even remembered grumbling a few times about it but now, only God knows how much I miss those very kisses and affection from my mom. She is the only one capable of making me feel loved. I guess that’s how pure a mother’s love was.
  • I sometimes catches myself wishing I could have her wrap those arms around me once again but ten years has past since then and a lot has changed around here.
  • All I have now is my grandmother and it’s funny to think I’m all she has too. It scary to think one day I might wake up one day to find her gone just like my parent did. It’s crazy I know but that’s just a sad reality about life.
  • Grandma walked over and sat at the bed side before grabbing an envelope from the side table and offered it to me.
  • I arched a brow slightly before grabbing it. “What is it?”
  • “Go on and open it. It was a gift from your father. He wanted me to give it to you at the right time and I can’t help but feel now is the right time”
  • “Dad wanted me to have this?” I asked, still turning it from side to side.
  • “Yes. Not just him, your mother did too” She confirmed, further making me anxious.
  • “So how long have you had it with you?” I asked as I began to tear through the envelope.
  • “A year before we lost them”
  • My eyes widen a bit as I pulled out the content. I’m shocked to see it contain a document with my company’s name boldly written on it. Before I could continued any further, I took a short pause with a glance at my grandmother whose feature was just as calm as compared to mine.
  • Before I could ask what it entails, she beat me to it. “Read it, son. Take your time to read it and if you don’t understand it. I will try my best to explain”
  • “Okay” I said, letting out a breath before I start to read out loud.
  • “Hello son, it’s me your father. How are you doing? Hope you are good and managing the company well” I paused and scoffed at the thought of replying to that. I mean, I would just explained how awesome it feels to fit into his shoes this past years. I bet my response would be expected or not. Can’t tell.
  • I let the thought slide as I continued to read even more. “_I know how weird it must be for you reading through this but I couldn’t help myself but leave something for you. I know you already have everything you can possibly need but this is important so I want you to read carefully and understand” I flipped to the next page and continued.
  • “if you are reading this then you will be turning thirty soon and you will agree with me that thirty is a big deal_” I paused and rolled my eyes mentally. Thirty is just a number. Nothing special I grumbled inwardly before continuing, with my grandmother’s eyes fixed on me still.
  • “_and knowing you, your mother and I have agreed that this decision is the best for you. If you are not already settled down with a family of your own then we want you to do so before your birthday or you will loose the company ownership as well as everything else. Before you try to argue and think this to be a joke, you might still want to look at the last page”
  • I hurriedly turned to the next page and lo and behold, his stamp and signature was boldly written at the back with the year 2010.
  • Fucking hell.
  • “What is this?” I croaked out with a pointy look at my grandmother and she shrugged at me.
  • “Is this a joke?”
  • “I’m afraid not. Your father told me about it before the unfortunate incident but I thought he was joking but the company that is supposed to take over in case you don’t comply to the term stated in those document called me yesterday to remind me and I was planning to invite you over for dinner this weekend and let you know but since you are already here, I just figured it was best to tell you about it, now!”
  • I couldn’t help but chuckle at the silly talks. I mean, is this some jokes? My father couldn’t have done this to me right? He really couldn’t have.
  • I took a deep calming breath and walked over and sat beside her on the bed before taking her hands gently in mine, the room temperature starting to feel even hotter than I remembered. “Grandma, please tell me this is a joke you came up with to get me to settle down because I don’t think my father would have really done this. I mean I see his signature and all but he couldn’t have, right?”
  • Her hand moved from my hold as it came and rest against my cheek gently, her soft eyes staring into my confused one. “You and I know it’s not a joke, son and that papers in your hands proves it. Your parent want you to be happy and also for you to stop living like a manwhore with lot of money and asset ”
  • I pushed away from her and back on my feet, pacing back and forth in confusion.
  • “But I’m the one in charge now and I’m not letting anyone just waltz in and claim what’s mine simply because I choose to be single and just live my life as I please, whether my father had given it to them or not”
  • She shook her head slightly, “I'm afraid you can’t do that. You could go to jail for it and you know it”
  • “well I don’t care if I land in hell, grandma but I will be damned before I let some dude from hell take the company I have worked so hard to built away from me “ I yelled in frustration.
  • “instead of being willing to go to jail, why don’t you settle down instead with one of your numerous girlfriends. I read about your escapade with them all the time”
  • “Really grandma?” I asked with a raised brow and she shrugged at me. “You really think I’m stupid enough to get hooked with one of those gold digging hoes for life?”
  • “Language son, language” she said with a warning glare and I sighed.
  • “If you trust them enough to sleep with them for fun then I bet one of them is also good enough for marriage as well”
  • “No. Not a chance. That’s not going to happen. I’m going to call my lawyer and see if he can get those people to back off and make them a new deal. Just whatever it takes to keep them away from me and everything I owned”
  • “Well then, you can go ahead and do whatever you want but make sure you don’t end up in jail or you might as well send me to the grave while at it”
  • She gave me one of those her looks that says ‘you just hurt my feelings' and I quickly reached back and pulled her into my arm before she starts sheading those tears on me. I can’t deal with that right now. My mind is already in great turmoil as it is. I don’t need another to add to it.
