Chapter 4 Leo

  • Leo's POV.
  • “Yes I do to be honest so go ahead and apologize but if not, you can shove it right where the sun doesn’t shine”.
  • I sighed in deeply as I recall those same words ringing in my ears yet again. I don’t know if I should be mad for letting her get away with insulting me or marvel at her sheer audacity. In my whole twenty nine years of existence, I have never had anyone speak to me with such disrespect and gotten away with it.
  • The only person bold enough is my grandmother but she is an exception. I love her too much to even think of hurting her but that crazy woman from earlier deserve to be taught a lesson. I bet she is just another street tout who is already frustrated with the life she is living.
  • I mean, judging from the cheap clothes she was putting on not to mention her stupid hair style. I doubt if she has ever being to a real hair stylist before. I doubt she can afford it and yet had the nerve to call me names.
  • She is lucky today is a good day and I didn’t want to arrive late to grandmother’s birthday or I would have had someone pick her up and have her locked up until she offers a proper apology, that would teach her a lesson not to open her mouth and spit out trash to whomever she is fortunate to meet.
  • I glanced at the pink box containing my grandmother’s cake by my side and back at my Rolex wrist watch before groaning. The traffic was starting to pile up really fast and we are starting to run out of time.
  • “Zack?” I started and he glanced over his shoulder and back at me. “Sir?”
  • “Is there no way we can beat this traffic? I still have a dinner meeting by 5pm”
  • “I can take the en route but it’s going to be a bumpy ride” He said with a hint of warning in his voice and I sighed even more.
  • “We don’t have much choice, Zack” I said and he gave a quiet nod before he began to back out of the long line of cars to move into the next interception before we were almost hit by another van whose driver was obviously drunk or running mad.
  • “Holy_”
  • “The fuck?” Zack and I yelled almost at the same time as he quickly moved out of the way before the van could crash into us. Is it just me or that stupid van look awfully familiar. I can’t really place my hand on it but I’m certain I have seen it somewhere today but just where though?
  • “Are you okay, Sir?” Zack asked and I was pulled out of my thought before I nodded at his direction once and I heard him sign out in relief before he began to carefully back out of the line once again and into the less busy route leading to the street.
  • **
  • The car came to a stop at my grandmother’s residence at exactly fifteen minutes later and I reached over and tap Zack over the shoulder. “Good job, Zack”
  • “You’re welcome, Sir” He replied with a slight bow before I grab the box of cake and he unlocked the door and I quickly hop out of the vehicle, my feet placed firmly against the pavement.
  • My sight was immediately greeted by the green scenery in the compound as I inhaled some fresh air into my lungs before exhaling slowly and start to walk into the entrance. I could hear voices coming from within the living room as I got even closer.
  • I paused for a brief second before pushing the door open and had several pairs of eyes turning to look at me but the only one my eyes was locked with were the soft kind ones belonging to my grandmother.
  • My pace quicken even more as I hurried to fall into her open embrace.
  • I placed the box among the other boxes of gift before wrapping my arms around her small frame, her floral scent filling my nostrils just as pleasantly. I took in a lungs full of it with my eyes clenched shut as she continued to hold me into her chest.
  • “Happy Birthday Grandma” I said with a smile after I pulled away slightly to look back at her beaming face.
  • “Sweet child. I thought you had forgotten all about it and wouldn’t come to see me” She expressed her fears to me and I reached over and kissed her on the cheek before pulling her in for another hug.
  • “I could never forget your birthday for anything in the world” I said quietly, meaning every word and thanking Clara in my head once again for the timely reminder.
  • “I saw you walk in with a box, did you bring me a gift?”
  • “I brought something but you will have to find out for yourself” I told her in a sing song voice and she pouted at me before she allowed me lead her away from her friends and towards the table.
  • One look at the table filled with wrapped gifts and she start to protest all over again. “I don’t need all these gift. I’m too old for this”
  • I guide her to open the box and watched with glint as her eyes pretty much light at the sight of her favorite flavored cake sat there.
  • “You got this from Aurora pantry?”
  • “Yup. That same one and it’s chocolate flavored just like you like it, grandma”
  • Her smile widen even more as the candlestick on it are being lit.
  • “Make a wish, Eva” One of her friends called and she chuckle before she shared up at me for a brief second. “Go on ,grandmother. Make a wish” I encouraged and she nod before she was quiet for a moment then leaned over and blew out her candles.
  • The little crowds gathered in the living room erupt into a loud cheers before she dish some and fed me and I did same before I began to lead her to seat at the sofa.
  • “so, what did you wish for?”
  • “I only wished for the same thing you have refused to grant me, Leo” She said looking up at me I couldn’t help but swallowed hard realizing how stupid it was for me to ask about her wish when I know she has asking for the same damn thing for the last four years now.
  • Wishing for me to get settled with kids is not the problem, knowing it would never get granted is the real problem. I’m never going to settle down and that’s it.
