• Although the men around her craved her, Jayson was generous enough never to allow them to lay a finger upon her. Occasionally, he permitted women to touch her, but they lacked the roughness that the men demonstrated.
• At times, he adorned her like a goddess and had her perch upon the edge of tables, always careful to keep his fingers near her collar, using her as the prize in the games he played, whether at the Black Castle or in the dark casinos where the Caza Nova convened.
• Never once did fear take hold of her; she trusted him implicitly. Knowing that he had never lost a game reassured her, and even if he did lose, leading her to the bed of one of his superiors, she felt determined to earn her keep.
