• Valerie straightens, slipping her hands into the pockets of her burgundy trousers. Leaning back on her nude heels, she stares down at Anastasia, making her feel like dirt beneath her shoes. "I always wondered about Sandro's obsession with you. Everything clicked when your mother reached out to me."
• Anastasia's limbs tense, and chills race down her spine. "M-my mother?"
• Valerie nods, a laugh escaping her lips. "You've gone pale, love. I suppose I would too if my secrets and lies were exposed." She pulls her hand from her pocket, scattering photos at Anastasia's feet.
