- Sandro aimed the gun at Lauro's head and, without hesitation, fired. Anastasia bit down hard on her fingers to stifle the scream building in her chest. The gunshot echoed harshly in the night, followed by an unnerving silence—the silence of death.
- Lauro slumped to the side. Shouts erupted, and Anastasia knew she should leave, she should run, but she was frozen. Her gaze was fixed on the blood spattering Sandro's cheek, the slight arch of his eyebrow as a cruel, amused laugh escaped his lips. A tremor ran through her, shaking her to her core.
- Alexander frantically tried to escape. A muscle twitched in Sandro's jaw as he aimed the gun at Alexander, his tongue flicking across his lower lip. The gunshot sent Anastasia reeling; she covered her ears and squeezed her eyes shut, her heart pounding a frantic rhythm against her ribs.
