- Lilah’s POV
- The breeze was stifling in the royal council chamber, thick with pressure that curled tighter with every second. I paced the length of the room, my boots slighting against the marble floor, trying to concentrate my thoughts. It felt like my chest was a storm- anger, disbelief, and betrayal churned within me. Across the room, Miles and Calvin were locked in hushed conversation, their heads fraudulent low, but their faces imaged my fury.
- "This does not make sense," I murmured, running a hand through my hair." Why would they do it? What could they conceivably gain from manipulating us like this?"
