Chapter 8 A Gift For The Misses
- Gina's POV
- “This isn't what it looks like” William recited the cliche line that I never thought I'd be on the other side of.
- “Why is your assistant sitting in your living room in her bra?” Stella looked past William and directed her eyes at me.
- The hurt in her eyes pricked me. I felt like the other woman. I was his mate but here I was feeling like I was a tramp.
- Nothing had happened between us yet I felt guilt building up within me. Stella must have been feeling the way I felt when I saw her kissing William. I held my bag tightly, not knowing what to do.
- “I can explain,” William said slowly. With each word, he took steps towards her like he was trying to defuse a bomb that was going to explode.
- “Tell her to leave, William” Stella yelled, her voice squeaking at the sound of his name.
- William turned to look at me and back at Stella.
- “I have to give her a ride home.”
- Stella gave him a glare that not only showed anger but frustration.
- “Are you going to leave me alone right now, to take your assistant home?”
- For some reason I was sure William was going to say yes. He was a jerk most times but he was a gentleman when it counted. Stella was only going to get more angry if he said that so I quickly interrupted.
- “I can find my way home”
- “Are you sure?” he asked me.
- “William, are you seriously asking her that right now?”
- “I'll be on my way” I replied and rushed past William towards the door. My head hung low as I approached Stella. She was close to the door.
- “That's right, leave you whore”
- Whore?
- Bile rose in my throat.
- I stopped in my tracks and looked at her. I wanted to speak but I realized that to her nothing I said mattered. I was just her fiance's assistant. If anyone was to say anything to her. It was William.
- “What are you staring at, you slut?” She sparked at me again.
- I looked over at William, waiting for him to say something to Stella for the words she was saying to me.
- But he didn't say anything.
- I shook my head at him and slammed the door shut behind me as I exited his house.
- I felt my stomach ease up. The ointment was already working but that didn't help the anger I had in me.
- I was livid. William just stood there and let her insult me. He didn't say a word. He didn't defend me.
- Did I expect him to?
- I mean he was the same guy who took my virginity and rejected me right after. The fact that I still believed there was some good in him was worth questioning.
- Shit! I cussed as I walked to the roadside.
- I didn't know how to get home from here. I didn't know where the nearest bus stop was.
- I had to order a cab. It was the only way. I brought out my phone and mentally screamed when it didn't come on.
- My phone was dead.
- This was the worst time for my phone to run out of battery. What was I going to do now?
- The only thing I could do was walk. I walked for over thirty minutes before I found a bus stop.
- An hour later, I was unlocking the front door to get into my home.
- “You're home early” Audrey called out from the living room. She was dressed in a pair of shorts and a little camisole as she painted her toenails. The TV blasted with loud music.
- Audrey didn't have to worry about work. Her parents already knew she didn't like to work and had stopped trying so she lived off them and enjoyed each day as it came.
- “You need to tell me what happened last night. You didn't come home” Audrey switched off the television and focused her attention on me. She loved a good gossip.
- “I had a little issue and had to sleep over at Nathan's” I couldn't tell her about the cramps because then I would have to tell her that William was my mate and he made it clear that no one was to know.
- “Oh my goddess” Audrey screamed and threw her hands in the air “You're finally letting loose. I'm so happy for you”
- “Nothing happened. I was asleep the whole time”
- She gave me a disappointed look which I laughed off before heading over to my room. After a quick shower. I lay in bed.
- Everything that had happened replayed in my head. If Stella had not come, I wonder what would have happened. I was glad Stella interrupted us. I needed the reminder that nothing could happen between William and I. He was engaged to Stella and I was going to be engaged to Nathan, who seemed like a good guy. He didn't deserve to be cheated on.
- Slowly sleep crept in and I let it. After the day I had, I needed an escape. I was barely swept away when I heard my door fly open with a loud bang.
- I opened my eyes groggily to see Audrey rushing towards me with childlike excitement.
- “Wake up Gina” she yelled and shook my body.
- “I’m up” I told her and pushed her gently off me. I hadn't even slept and I was already being woken up.
- “Come and see” she pulled my hand, surprisingly she was really strong, one pull and I was on my feet, following her out of my room and towards the front door.
- “This better be important” I muttered under my breath.
- “Trust me you'll be pleasantly surprised” She replied.
- We stopped at the front door and then she pushed it open. On the other side was a delivery man. From his uniform I could tell he was a part of the biggest delivery service in the pack. Whatever delivery he was making was surely something big.
- I never got deliveries. They were always sent to Audrey from her numerous admirers. I was about to ask why she called me out when the delivery man spoke.
- “Are you Miss Gina Thornton?”
- The delivery was for me?
- “Yes, I am”
- “I'll need you to sign for this” he handed me the pad in his hand and a pen.
- “I didn't order anything” I explained as I signed under my name.
- “Someone sent it to you” He handed me a little box.
- “What's in it?” I mumurred, examining the box. It was so little, maybe they were a pair of earrings. Before I could open the box, Audrey grabbed it from my hand and tore it open.
- “A key” she exclaimed and then she gave me a look “A key to what?”
- “The car is right here,” the delivery man replied.
- Someone sent me a car? I stood with doubt. Was it some sort of prank?
- Who would send me a car?
- Audrey pushed past me and followed the delivery man outside. I heard her squeal in excitement and rushed outside to see for myself.
- Audrey stood in front of a black Lamborghini.
- Someone gifted me a Lamborghini?
- I didn't know what I felt. Audrey was more excited than I was. I was in shock. I have never dreamed of receiving such a gift.
- A whole car and not just any car but a Lamborghini.
- Audrey unlocked the car and climbed in. I could hear her loud gasp from where I stood.
- The car was indeed beautiful.
- “The documents are already in your name” Audrey yelled from the front seat. She ran back to me and placed the documents in my hands.
- “This gorgeous car is really yours” her words were like an affirmation to what was on the surface. I looked at the document and my name really was on it.
- “Who sent this?” I turned to ask the delivery guy who was still there.
- “I'm sorry ma'am, there was a note” he apologized and searched his bag for it.
- “Here it is”
- I collected the card and a smile plastered itself on my face.
- “To the beautiful Miss Thornton. I can't have my fiance riding the bus. If you don't like the color I will have it changed”
