Chapter 5 An Angry Luna And My Future Husband

  • Gina's POV
  • Luna Anne was a woman who rarely got angry and hardly ever came into the office. So I was in shock seeing her walk towards me with anger in her eyes.
  • “Where's your phone?” Was the first thing she asked me.
  • I hurriedly searched my bag for my phone.
  • Shit! I cussed as the screen came on and I saw it…
  • Eight missed calls from the Luna and two from the alpha.
  • No wonder she looked pissed.
  • “I am so sorry Luna Anne. I had to put my phone on silent to work. I didn't know it rang. I've been so busy”
  • “Nathan has been waiting for you. Come with me” she reached for my hand but I paused and replayed her words in my head.
  • “Wait. Now? I'm going to meet him now?” I wasn't ready to meet him. I wasn't even sure I wanted this engagement.
  • “Yes, we don't have time to waste” she answered and took a hold of my hand, pulling me towards the driveway.
  • “But I only just heard about this today”
  • Luna Anne stopped in her tracks and turned to look at me, her dark eyes grew a bit darker as she stared at me with annoyance. She was a small woman but her looks always sent chills.
  • “Gina. I didn't come this far to go back home without you. Besides, he's been waiting for so long, it'll be rude to decline at the last minute”
  • **********
  • This was crazy!
  • Was what I kept muttering in my mind as I changed into the outfit the Luna gave to me in the car.
  • Apparently, my work clothes were not suitable to meet Nathan North, the alpha of the South Rare Gem pack. With the hype surrounding his name, I could already tell that he was going to be a proud prick.
  • “Now I want you to smile and be on your best behavior. A lot is riding on your union with Nathan” Luna Anne said to me as she handed me a lipstick.
  • I stared at it before applying it on my lips.
  • “I know this is sudden and definitely a lot for you to take in but Gina we've done a lot for you since your parents died. I think it makes sense for you to do this for us and the pack”
  • I nodded my head.
  • This was how the Luna was. She'd always remind me of how much they had done for me and how I had to repay them. I had always been ready to do what they wanted but I never thought it would lead to an arranged marriage.
  • “Do you understand?” Luna Anna asked once again as we came down from the car.
  • “Yes I do,” I replied. My gaze landed on the front door. The man I was going to marry was inside there. I hoped he was kind.
  • I followed quietly behind the Luna into the house. The sitting room was empty except for the Alpha, who sat with his phone in his hand, he looked a little annoyed.
  • “Where is he?” Luna Anne asked him in a hurry.
  • “He left. Something came up and his presence was needed” The alpha responded.
  • I heaved out a sigh of relief. I was glad I wasn't meeting him today. I wasn't ready for this. I didn't want to marry a stranger. I wanted to marry my mate but my mate didn't want me.
  • “Regina” I flinched as the alpha called my name, he only said my full name when it was serious.
  • I immediately bowed my head in respect.
  • “Yes sir”
  • “Your tardiness has almost cost us this arrangement. I need you to understand just how important this union is”
  • “Yes sir”
  • “He has agreed to meet you at the De La Quan restaurant tomorrow at 7pm. Do not screw it up”
  • ****************
  • The time was 6:10pm. I still had over thirty minutes before the date with my supposed future husband.
  • I wasn't happy about it but it didn't matter.
  • Audrey stood over me, a makeup palette in her hand. She was just like her mother, ensuring I looked extra before going to meet Nathan North.
  • “Gina you wouldn't believe what happened yesterday” Audrey said with an exaggerated smile and I could immediately tell what she was going to say next.
  • “I met the most gorgeous looking man ever, he's going to be my husband”
  • I rolled my eyes and giggled.
  • “Audrey wasnt that what you said about the man you met two weeks ago”
  • Audrey frowned at me and tilted my chin up to apply lipstick.
  • “This is different. He is different. I can feel it. I just need to find out his name and get close to him. He wouldn't be able to resist my charm. Maybe we could get married on the same day” she squealed at her plan.
  • I let out a little chuckle at her forwardness. She didn't seem to notice that this marriage wasn't making me happy and I couldn't tell her either. She was my friend but she was also the alpha's daughter. I didn't want them to find out I didn't want to do what they asked of me.
  • Audrey pulled a brush through my hair and gave it a gentle pat.
  • “All done. He'll fall in love with you the moment he sees you”
  • I smiled and got up from the seat. My eyes darted to the wall clock.
  • “And just in time too” the time was 6:10pm.
  • “Here you go” Audrey handed me the bag she had selected herself.
  • “Thanks. See you later” I waved at her and headed out the door.
  • I had just gotten into the Uber when my phone chimed with a message from William.
  • *Come to the office now. It's urgent*
  • I didn't bother opening the message. I didn't want to get sucked into whatever it was. I had to go to the restaurant or the Luna would have my head.
  • *If you're not here in twenty minutes, don't bother coming in tomorrow* an annoyed sigh left my lips.
  • “I'll be changing my destination” I said to the driver. The driver nodded and took down the office address.
  • I was going to be quick. Whatever he wanted me to do, I'd do it quickly and head out. I still had some time to spare and the restaurant wasn't that far. I could make it.
  • What was he even doing at work by this time?
  • I knocked twice before pushing the door open. I didn't step in and stood by the door.
  • “What's so urgent?”
  • He looked up from the files in his hand. His eyes skimmed over my outfit and then rested on my face. I felt conscious of his gaze. It was the first time I was dressing up this much and it was for another man. I always thought it would be for him.
  • “I didn't know I was interrupting something. Where were you going?” Before I could reply, a smirk formed on his lips as he asked “A clown festival?”
  • I felt a blow to my heart. Did I look like a clown? I shook the thought off. He didn't need to know how badly his words affected me.
  • “If you must know, I have a date with Nathan North which you're making me late for. Why did you call me here?”
  • He tossed two files towards me, because of how far I was standing they fell to the ground.
  • I rolled my eyes and walked forward to pick them up.
  • “Something isn't adding up, those files are supposed to be copies of each other but the last figures aren't the same. It's supposed to be shown to some partners tomorrow, find out what's wrong?”
  • I was mad but at least this was a real problem, it was better than the previous day when he had just made me photocopy unnecessary papers. I glanced at the wall clock in his office. It was 6:40.
  • Shit! I was going to be late. I walked to his table and placed the two files, opened them and looked through. The problem wasn't hard to find. He could've done it easily… Was this just another plan to annoy me?
  • “It's not adding up because this purchase was added in this and wasn't added in the other file” I told him.
  • He nodded.
  • “Can I leave now?”
  • He didn't bother glancing up from the documents he was reading.
  • “The corrections need to be made”
  • “I'll come early tomorrow and do it. I'm already late” I didn't give him a chance to reply and turned to leave.
  • “I can't believe you're going through with this” I stopped at his words and turned to face him.
  • “What do you mean?”
  • “Agreeing to be with Nathan North. Do you even know anything about him?”
  • “No but I don't have a choice”
  • “Everyone has a choice”
  • Why was he always bent on making me a mental mess?
  • “You had a choice too and you rejected me and chose Stella. I don't think you should be speaking about things like this with me. Let's be professional, sir”
  • “Fine but at least do your findings before you agree to spend your life with someone like him”
  • Someone like him? What did he mean by that? Was there something about Nathan North that I needed to know?
  • No… William was just playing mind games on me.
  • “If you'll excuse me, I have to go meet my future husband”
  • I pushed open the door and stopped in my tracks as I saw Him.
  • The blonde haired blue eyed man from the previous day. The man whose scent had intoxicated me. The man who gave me his handkerchief and asked if I was okay.
  • “I've been looking for you” his baritone voice sounded so good in my ears.
  • “Why?” I asked as I got a hold of myself “I'm sorry I'm not with your handkerchief, I washed it but I left it at home”
  • A light chuckle left his lips.
  • “That's not why I'm here”
  • “Why are you here?”
  • His eyes had a hint of surprise in them.
  • “You really don't know who I am, Gina?”
  • “You know my name? Who are you?” I asked slowly.
  • “I'm going to be your husband”
