Chapter 2 You Can't Be My Boss!

  • Gina’s P.O.V
  • Our gaze directed to the door as it moved from its hinges. I already knew who it was. Only one person entered my room without knocking.
  • “What the fuck is going on here?” Audrey, my best friend and William’s younger sister asked as she looked at our position. William immediately stepped away from me like I was some plague he was avoiding.
  • “Did you have sex with my brother?” she immediately asked. Her eyes glued on me. I felt a bead of sweat form on my forehead as I looked back at William for support, but he wasn't looking at me. He picked up his jacket and completely ignored his sister’s presence.
  • “We will continue this later” he said to me and walked away. As soon as he left the room, I slumped onto the bed.
  • The strength I had been mustering left my body instantly, and the realization of everything started to set in. I had found my mate and I had been rejected.
  • “Did you fuck my brother?” Audrey was never one to mince words which was one of the reasons her parents were so glad when she said she was moving in with me. I looked at her and dropped my head into my palms. She had a sixth sense for things like this, she could always tell when two people had done it. There was no need lying to her, when she already knew the answer.
  • “We did but it’s never happening again. He said it was a mistake” I hugged my knees to my chest and evened out my breathing. I had to get my energy back somehow, even though my whole body felt like it had been in an accident. I still had to go to work.
  • I felt the bed sink beside me as Audrey sat beside me. Her hand planted itself on my head and she stroked my hair gently.
  • “What happened to waiting for your mate?”
  • I didn’t know what to tell her, William had made it clear that no one was to know I was his mate. I guess he was that embarrassed.
  • Was I that bad? Luckily my gaze drifted to the clock. I was almost late for work.
  • “Can we talk about this later, I don’t want to lose my job” I didn't wait for her reply before rushing into the bathroom.
  • Today was my first day at Eclipse media. Everything I had done academically was with that place in mind. It was owned by William’s father, Alpha Thomas but managed by an acting CEO since he was busy with Alpha duties.
  • **********
  • I got off the bus and held my bag tightly as I made my way into the office, thankfully I had gotten a little strength back. A sense of pride washed over me as I walked towards the receptionist table. I hoped my parents would be proud of me. I was heartbroken over William but hopefully working here would be too time indulging to let me think about him.
  • “Hi, I’m Regina Thornton” I told the kind looking receptionist.
  • “Oh. We’ve been expecting you Miss Thornton. You’re to start as the CEO’s personal assistant”
  • “But that isn’t the job I was called in for” I had been told that I was to join the marketing department.
  • “Alpha Thomas, thought that this way you could learn about the company, he said you could do this for a couple of months before moving to a specific department. I guess he was too busy to tell you himself”
  • “Oh” I nodded my head in understanding.
  • “I'm sure you know the office already. Here you go” she handed me my appointment letter and a key. As I got into the elevator, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed at the change of my position. This wasn't the first time the alpha had stepped in to change something in my life without my permission.
  • Ever since my parents died and Alpha Thomas took me in, it sometimes felt like I was living for them and not myself. I had to be groomed to work in this company since none of his children were interested. was never asked if I was interested, I was just expected to be and somehow I was or I think I was. I've never really had the chance to think about what I really want.
  • My knuckles met the door in a gentle collision. I did this twice before twisting the door knob and pushing the door open. My feet halted abruptly, as if rooted to the spot, as I caught sight of the CEO sitting behind the imposing mahogany desk. My eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, I contemplated running out of the office but I couldn't.
  • What was he even doing here?
  • His eyes opened wide for a short second as he stared at me, his dark orbs filled with confusion and then he shook his head as realization set in.
  • “Don't tell me you're my assistant,” William said with obvious disgust.
  • Taking in a deep breath. I took a step forward and placed my appointment letter at his table.
  • “I'm here to be your new personal assistant” the words rolled off my tongue easily since nothing else could come to mind. I hated where I stood. I hated that he was my boss. More than anything though, I hated him for breaking my heart.
  • His hands swept my papers off his desk instantly.
  • “You can't be my assistant” he stated with no mince in his words or eyes.
  • “Trust me. I also don't want this job but this is what Alpha Thomas assigned to me” I explained as I bent down to pick up my papers.
  • “Quit” his voice echoed the order through the room.
  • “What?”
  • “Write your resignation letter and hand it in before the end of the day”
  • “You can't possibly be serious,” I murmured under my breath. First he rejected me and now he wanted me to leave my job. When was it going to end?
  • His eyes flashed red as he clasped his hands together on his desk.
  • “I'm dead serious Gina. If you decide to stay in this office. I promise you would hate every single minute that you are here”
  • Something in the pit of my stomach told me that he was not bluffing.
  • “Willi…” I started to say but my words got caught up as the office door swung open and a majestic being walked through the door.
  • My jaw almost dropped as the most beautiful woman I've ever seen walked past me and towards William, her blonde hair managed to sway perfectly despite there being no wind in the office. She had on a silver sparkly short gown that hugged her body at the right corners showcasing her amazing bodice. I unintentionally looked down at myself, I was spotting a b cup. Next to this lady, I looked like a pencil.
  • “Darling” the woman called out slowly as she wrapped her hands around William’s face and planted her lips on his, his hand encircled her waist as he pulled her towards his body. His eyes met mine and stayed on them as he kissed the woman passionately. He was taunting me.
  • A tear dropped from my eyes as my heart constricted within itself. It felt hard to breathe. My hand clutched my chest as I battled with the inner turmoil of watching my mate kiss this woman.
  • I couldn't just stand and watch them, I had to leave. I didn't care if he hadn't briefed me on my job description. All I needed was to breathe and I knew I couldn't with the two of them in front of me. I held my bag tightly and walked out of his office.
  • As my hand left the door knob after closing the door to his office, my knees gave in and I slumped to the ground. I knew where I was, I knew anyone could walk past and see me but I couldn’t help it.
  • A tear fell from my eyes and another until my face was filled with tears. My legs had lost the ability to walk and the only thing I could feel was a sharpening pain in my chest. My breathing increased despite my trying to breathe evenly.
  • Why was I crying?
  • He had already rejected me? He had let me know he didn’t care for our connection, but it still hurt no matter how hard I tried, I felt the pain deep within me.
  • Was this woman the reason he had rejected me?
  • Couldn't he have asked me to leave the office before kissing her?
  • Maybe quitting wasn't such a bad idea.
  • Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder and a deep baritone voice followed after.
  • “Are you okay?”
  • I sucked in a breath at the question and began wiping at my tears.
  • “I'm fine” I responded without looking at the owner of the deep masculine voice.
  • “You don't look fine” the voice said again. This time I had to look at him, my breath stopped for a half second as my eyes met his. He stood over an inch taller than me with the kind of body build that could make any girl feel safe. His blonde hair blended perfectly with his pair of blue eyes that looked at me with so much concern, one would think that we knew each other.
  • I wiped at my eyes again, suddenly feeling conscious of looking a mess in front of this stranger. It wasn't just his aura. It was his scent. He had a scent that was messing with my senses. If I didn't know that William was my mate, I would've thought that this stranger was.
  • “Here” he reached into the pocket of his blazer and pulled out a handkerchief. His eyes didn't leave mine as he stretched it towards me.
  • “Thank you” a low growl escaped Livvy as my fingers grazed his palms.
  • What was happening?
  • Before anything more could happen, he gave me a curt nod and walked away leaving me to grasp unto the last of his scent.
  • I didn't even catch his name!
  • ******
  • I stood over the sink in the restroom and splashed water on my face. It had been over thirty minutes and that woman still had not left Williams office. My face scrunched up in disgust and annoyance as I wondered what they could be doing inside there.
  • He was kissing her with the same lips he had used to kiss me last night.
  • Another tear fell from my eyes and I wiped it away. I didn’t like crying but I couldn't help it. The guy I was in love with, turned out to be my mate but still didn't want me.
  • *Ding* my message notification popped up on my phone. A message from William.
  • *Meet me in the parking lot* the text read.
