Chapter 4 You Want The Job?

  • Gina's POV
  • “Who is my mate?”
  • “Me” He responded swiftly.
  • My breath caught in my throat. What was he doing? What was he saying?
  • “I mean, you had a mate” he let go of my hand immediately and turned to face the steering wheel.
  • “You should marry Nathan. It would be good for the pack” I didn't need to see his eyes to know that there was more to what he said but I wasn't in the right frame of mind to dig deeper.
  • ********
  • My heart leaped up in joy as the clock struck six. It meant I could finally go home. The day had been pure torture, getting rejected, finding out William was engaged and agreeing to an arranged marriage all in one day. I just needed to go to my room and lie on my bed. Just for a moment I wanted to forget everything that had happened today.
  • I wanted to pretend it wasn't real and I had imagined it all.
  • I picked up my bag and made my way to the exit but just as I reached the door. My phone beeped, a message from William.
  • “Come to my office now” the text read.
  • Office hours were already over, what could he possibly want? Did he want to hurt me some more or add salt to the wounds that he had created?
  • I knocked on the door to his office and opened it. He sat at his desk, looking through some files.
  • He had taken off his blazer and the top buttons of his shirt, his exposed skin made mine crawl. I shook my head and focused on his face. That seemed like a bigger mistake. His face was flawless in every way, with sharp cheekbones, a strong jawline, and full lips that made my knees weak.
  • His dark brown eyes were even darker as he narrowed his gaze on the file in front of him.
  • His shoulder length black hair fell across his forehead in a mesmerizing mess.
  • I wasn't supposed to stare but it was so hard not to. And then he looked up, his gaze locked unto mine and I felt my body freeze immediately.
  • “You sent for me” I managed to say.
  • “I need these documents photocopied” he stated.
  • That was when I saw it, a two step trolley packed at a corner in the office, both layers stacked and filled with lots of papers. I was sure It was over 200 papers in total
  • “I need fifty copies each” Williams stated and continued with his business.
  • I looked over at the wall clock in his office to be sure I wasn’t wrong about the time.
  • “But it's already six. Office hours are over. Can’t I do this tomorrow?”
  • “You want the job right? Then you have to be ready to do overtime” he recited without looking up once.
  • It suddenly hit me. He wanted me to quit. This was part of what he meant by making me hate staying at the company.
  • “Do you even need any of this copied? You’re just trying to annoy me”
  • Something about what I said must have hit a nerve because he stood to his feet and made his way towards me. He stopped a few inches away from me and bent to my eye level.
  • “I am your boss. Do not question me”
  • One slight move and our bodies would’ve touched. I could feel my heart beat increase as his eyes moved over my body as if undressing me with each stare. He had said what he wanted but he was still standing close, too close for my thoughts to function properly, he bit his lips and my brain went into malfunction.
  • My wolf was stirring inside of me, wanting to close the little distance between us. Without thinking, I reached out to push him away but his hand caught mine, with a simple but strong tug at my wrist, I lost my footing and gravitated towards him, my body pressed against his. His other hand rested at the back of my waist, sending a shiver through my back.
  • “What are you doing?” I voiced out as my eyes met his. Confusion and want clouded his iris. His gaze lingered at my eyes and then slowly, they trailed down to my lips and back at my eyes again.
  • “You’re driving me crazy. Gina” his voice was husky and felt warm on the skin of my neck.
  • Instinctively, my eyes shut. A voice at the back of my head kept shouting that he was engaged and so was I partially but all that didn’t matter at that moment. He was my mate and I was his.
  • All I wanted was to stay like that for hours, to feel his warmth until it became mine.
  • I wanted his lips to join with mine, I wanted our lips to dance together to the rhythm of love.
  • The same love he claimed to feel for Stella.
  • What was I doing?
  • I opened my eyes and pushed him away, with all my strength, it only managed to get him an inch away from me.
  • “You’re engaged. What are you doing?”
  • “This is what the goddess intended” he stepped forward and cupped my cheeks. I loved the feel of his hands on my face. This was where I belonged; in his arms.
  • Just as my eyes were about to close and I was about to lean into the most desired kiss of my life, the door’s hinges came loose and Stella came walking in.
  • William immediately stepped away from me. Like I was a plague he didn't want to be associated with.
  • “You again!” Stella snapped as she looked at me.
  • She was angry.
  • I would be too if my fiance was that close to another woman.
  • “This is my assistant. She was just getting some files that needed to be photocopied” William said and looked over at the trolley. I sighed as I walked to it and pushed it out of the office.
  • In one day, William had managed to build and destroy my hopes multiple times. How dumb could I possibly be? Did I think he’d kiss me and magically lose interest in Stella?
  • I pushed the trolley to the copier and began making the copies.
  • The time was a minute after 10 when I finally finished making the copies. I heaved out a sigh of relief as I arranged the copies neatly on William’s desk. He had left two hours ago with Stella.
  • As I walked out of the office, I replayed the events of the day and tried hard to not burst into tears. A taxi had just stopped in front of me when I suddenly heard my name.
  • “Oh shit. What have I done now?” I murmured to myself as she approached me with eyes blaring red from anger.
