• I felt Gianna stiffen the moment her gaze locked onto the new arrival. A flicker of regret stirred in me-I had placed that bastard on the Supreme Squad only because he was the son of an Alpha. But judging by Gianna's reaction, I realized I might've made a grave mistake. It was clear she knew him, and if we hadn't razed the Black Blade Pack, he would've been her Alpha.
• Initially, I thought she hated him simply for switching sides to save his own skin. And sure, that was a reason to despise him-he was a spineless traitor. But then again, so were half the men in this squad, and most of the army I commanded.
