Chapter 6 I Need To Read Her Mind
- Alpha Kieran’s POV
- As soon as we got to my chambers, “Here we go,” I laid Raven on the bed, where she could at least take some rest while I find a way to inform the doctor to come over and check her leg joints to be sure everything is in check.
- I moved outside to at least inform a pack guard with regard to that, even before Raven could say anything in appreciation as her eyes already said it all.
- Just then, something struck my mind.
- “Lucian.”
- I called out for my Beta, but after a while, when I couldn't get any response around, I called out again.
- “Lucian.”
- But still no response; I tried to mind-link with him, but it didn't get through.
- “I wonder where he is, to have disconnected his mind link.”
- I growled out, at least not this time that I need his attention urgently.
- The last time I checked, he was in the chamber, and he didn't let me know he was going to go anywhere; neither did I ask him to go do anything for me. Besides that, he rarely goes out of the pack without pre-informing me, and so I had this feeling that he isn't too far from the pack.
- Since I couldn't reach him, I turned to the pack guard, “Get me Lucian now; he needs to have my luna’s chamber fortified thrice to what it used to be before.”
- “Ok, my Alpha.”
- As soon as the pack guard left, I went on to lament through clenched teeth as I paced back and forth in the chamber where I laid Raven, not minding her gaze that was fixed on me.
- “I can't have some intruders invade her chamber, at least not when I am still alive.
- They must be stopped right away.”
- After a little while, another pack guard came around, and that was when it occurred to me that I hadn't requested a doctor for Raven yet.
- “Fetch me the new human doctor to come help check my Luna's legs. I think his services are needed now. You need to do that real quick.” I requested, and he gave a bow and left instantly.
- I turned back to admire the beautiful piece of creature I had as my Luna, who has paid less attention to me now. I felt my stomach clench and my heart skip a beat at the same time, and so the thoughts of mating with her instantly came knocking in my head.
- There is nothing to dispute the fact that she feels the same way for me, seeing how she glanced at me appreciatively for assisting her when I got her to my chambers.
- If not, then I wouldn't know how to explain the undeniable pull tightening around me towards her like an invisible thread.
- At least, that's a mutual feeling, and something in me makes me strongly believe that.
- But then, I considered her leg that needs to be taken care of first before anything else.
- And so, I had no choice but to ditch the thoughts away; you know we will always find time for that some other time.
- Besides, I think that she is yet to be relaxed because of the attack she just had.
- “Should I keep you in your best position?” I questioned, calling her attention back to me.
- The look on her face as she looked up to mine answered it all—that she doesn't know the position I was referring to.
- And that brought me to ask her this one question that had been on my mind again.
- I asked, “Have you been able to remember anything? Like having flashbacks and the likes? I really need to ask you one or two questions to confirm something when you do.”
- I can't open up to her that I see reasons not to believe that she doesn't have Raven’s personality, aside from her looks.
- But that would be too straightforward; rather, the questions would definitely help me to clear my doubts about her.
- “Not yet, but when I do, I will let you know, my Alpha.”
- The softness of her tone of voice added to the allure I had felt for her.
- To the best of my knowledge, she might be going through a recantation amnesia and needs some time to get back to her usual senses.
- I think that is more considerate than the pack elders, who thought that she had tried to fake her own death, and that was why I had to defend her before them when she was being called out.
- In no time, the first pack guard I had sent out to look for Lucian had returned to me.
- “Alpha Kieran, I can't find Beta Lucian anywhere around the pack.”
- “It's fine; I believe he will be back soon from wherever he must have gone to. You can go.”
- “Ok, my Alpha.”
- He gave a subtle bow and left my presence.
- And then, it didn't take a moment too long before the human doctor was here, accompanied by the pack guard I had asked to send for him.
- “Here is the new human doctor.” The pack guard introduced him.
- I could see the shock in Raven's expression as her eyes went wide, and she scooted back a little bit on the bed, but I could see reasons with her, though.
- At least I used my initiative, which I didn't have to work for because I am genetically predisposed to being more intelligent than most wolves in the pack.
- “I understand the fact that this is another doctor, a new one entirely from the one you have known, but I learned the other one is dead, and we had to get a new one. He resumed work for the first time now, though.”
- I said softly to her, keeping my tone gentle and watching her carefully.
- “Late! What happened to him?
- Who killed him?”
- Her questions were full of suspicion of me, and I could see the confidence in her eyes as clear as crystals when she spoke and the way she would want to fight back with words sometimes, unlike Raven, who I have known all my life as one who felt venerable, as I was actually betrothed to her.
- I wish I could just read through her mind, but I just can't.
- Let's assume I can't read her mind or even mind-link her for the fact that the mate bond between us must have died with her but then I need to know what is going through her mind.
- Then, in essence, the universe makes her as good as a lone wolf till I mark her in the full moon.
- The fact that I can't read her mind means that I need to mark her again; I need to know what is going through her mind.
