Chapter 43 Closer Than Ever

• Selene’s POV
• The doors shut behind us with a thud that echoed through Alpha Kieran’s chamber. The silence that followed pressed down like a blanket as it felt too thick and too steady. I should have felt safe now that we were inside, away from the eyes of the pack and Beta Lucian’s cold stare, but the knot in my chest refused to loosen.
• Kieran’s hand didn’t leave mine until he finally wanted to put on one of the lights, I think the brighter one that had to assist the dim one that was on before we got in. And so the flashy light filled the room, chasing away the room that once felt like it was closing in. His eyes swept over me, sharp and assessing.
