  • The corridor finally led me out into the wide stretch leading to the dining hall. My palms were still clammy, and the whispers of Raven’s screams haunting the back of my mind. I forced myself to walk steady, to blend in, to breathe as though nothing inside me was shattering.
  • The taste of water still seemed to last longer than usual on my tongue as I walked past the dining hall, but it didn’t matter. Not just that, the smell of roasted meat and fresh bread lingered in the air, but it did nothing to settle me. My stomach churned, not with hunger, but with dread.
