• I walk down the stairs, trusting that Mercer will stay put, for now. But it’s Mercer. He pushes, and tests boundaries, even when it puts him at risk. Like leaving the damn hospital when he knew Axel was still out there. If he’d stayed, Axel wouldn’t have had the chance to get near him.
