Chapter 29 His Fighting
- Rook POV
- Kade’s anger is entertaining, almost endearing in a way. He really believes that pushing me away, that spitting venom at me, will make any of this less real. He thinks that if he repeats it enough, if he says he doesn’t belong to me, that somehow it’ll become a fact instead of a lie he tells himself.
- I was itching to pull the trigger on his little friend when I crept up behind them, just to make a point, just to watch the blood spill and see the horror carve its way across Kade’s face. I could almost taste it, the way his world would have shattered in an instant, the way he would have realized exactly how far I’m willing to go. But I didn’t. Maybe I was feeling generous. Maybe I just wanted to savor this moment instead. He should be grateful for that, but instead, he’s standing here, drunk and slurring out protests, still thinking he has a say in any of this.
