Chapter 7

  • Alex’s POV
  • “I couldn’t believe what had just happened that night at the gala. The girl from that night, the one I had been trying to forget, is my nephew's wife? How could I have made such a huge mistake? I didn't even link the two together. It's not like I'm that close with the rest of the family to know my nephew's wife!
  • I couldn’t shake the memory of her from my mind. The way her soft brown eyes looked at me, the way she begged me to take her… I could still feel the heat from her body. She had been hurt I could tell now ..she asked me to make her forget him and it all made sense.
  • I didn't understand tho, how would anyone cheat on someone like her?
  • I needed more information about her, fast.
  • I paged my personal assistant.
  • “Mr. Alex,” his voice came through the line.
  • “Dillion, I need the details of that girl that walked in late. Yvonne. Send it to me in the next five minutes.” My tone was sharp, trying to hide the frustration.
  • “Of course, right away,” he replied.
  • I stared at my screen, my mind restless until his email notification popped up.
  • There she was–innocent and professional in her picture, but I knew the truth now. “Yvonne,” I muttered under my breath, the memory of how she moaned under my touch rushing back. Just thinking about it made me hard. I shifted in my seat, forcing myself to focus on her profile.
  • Her full name was Yvonne Calvin. She is 24, but she looked so much younger, which was why I had hesitated at first. But when she told me she was 24, I couldn’t hold back anymore. I gave her every chance to walk away, but she begged me to take her–and I did. That wasn’t like me.
  • I’ve always kept my relationships casual, with mature women who understood the rules. No commitment. No strings. I was the one in control. But last night, she was all I wanted, and I fell for it.
  • The worst part was, I wanted her again despite knowing I couldn’t have her. She was too young and too involved now. Might I add that she was my nephew's wife? That made her off–limits. She had to stay off–limits, and I hoped she understood that too.
  • I was lost in these thoughts when my phone rang. It was Christian.
  • “Hey, Christian. What’s going on?” I asked, trying to push thoughts of Yvonne aside.
  • “Uncle, I need to see you,” Christian’s voice sounded strained like something was seriously wrong.
  • “Is everything alright?” I asked, immediately concerned. These days we became awfully close, that only made my guilt worse.
  • “I can’t talk much on the phone. Can we meet for dinner at the restaurant?”
  • “Is it urgent? You know you can tell me anything,” I pressed, worried. My mind went to the divorce.
  • “I know, it's about the divorce proceedings. Dinner’s fine. Does 7 pm work for you?”
  • Exactly what I thought.
  • “No, I can't make that work but you could just come over to Yvonne's company, I'm there for a meeting and it won't be over so soon.” I replied.
  • "Okay then.”
  • And the line went dead.
  • I leaned back in my chair, trying to figure out what could be wrong.
  • I thought for a while and still couldn't figure it out. My thoughts went back to Yvonne and I remembered I didn't have her number.
  • I called her mom, asking for her number. I know it sounds stupid but inasmuch as she's off limits she's pulled me in too far already.
  • I wanted her, as selfish as that may sound. I did want her
  • Little steps I told myself..
  • I stood up, heading out of my office, determined to push my worries aside for now.
  • At 12 PM when Christian said he was coming over, I heard my assistant tell me from the intercom that he was here.
  • "Tell him to wait in the waiting room and I will meet him there."
  • "So by next week which is the deadline for -
  • I'm cut short at the door opening to a distraught Christian.
  • "Alex, I really need help to stop the divorce.” For the first time, he's calling my name. “I really can't go through with the last proceedings. I screwed up, I love Yvonne and I still want to be with her, not that skank of her sister."
  • My eyes bulged out in shock at the mention of her sister. Not any other woman but her very sister?
  • It was when he blabbed out he realized he made a huge mistake.
