Chapter 6
- Yvonne’s POV
- I grabbed my phone from the nightstand, squinting at the bright screen. Several missed calls from Christian stared back at me, twisting the knife already lodged in my chest. I had thought he was the one I would grow old with, the one I would have more kids with . But all those dreams shattered when I found him in bed with another woman. I wish I stayed longer to see the woman he slept with, I wish he would mention her, then I'll make both of them pay.
- My fingers hovered over the call log, but I couldn’t bring myself to listen to his voicemail. I tossed the phone onto the bed, the pain of his betrayal still fresh. Last night, I had tried to forget what I’d seen, but it was still there, hiding beneath the surface, ready to pull me down again.
- My mom sat beside me, watching my expression. “Are you okay?” she asked softly.
- “I don’t know,” I said, my voice low. “I feel… confused. I just saw Christian’s missed calls and voicemails, and now I feel like I cheated on him. Damn it… I feel just like him.”
- My mom shook her head. “No, you’re nothing like that jerk. If your father was here he would tell you the same thing."
- “I am,” I muttered, clutching my head as more memories of Alex’s hands and lips came flooding back.
- “Yvonne…” she grabbed my shoulders, shaking me a little. “You’re not like Christian. What happened with Alex was a reaction to what Christian did. You’re not at fault.”
- “But I am.” I groaned. “We had sex, I think… I’m not sure. Everything’s a blur. I regret it all now… My first time, with a stranger, in a hotel I can't even remember. Oh my God, I'm certain we did have sex,” I groaned.
- “Are you talking about Alex?” my mom asked, unsure.
- “Yes… Alex… that’s what you said his name was.”
- She gave me a small, knowing smile. “Don’t worry about it sweetie.”
- “Why wouldn't I?” I asked, panic rising. The blurry images in my head didn’t add up. I didn't drink so much that night, just a few cocktails here and there.
- “I don’t know everything, but I don’t think it went as far as you fear,” my mom tried to reassure me. “But right now, you need to get ready. Don’t let last night mess with your head"
- She gave me a sympathetic look but clapped her hands together, snapping me out of my thoughts. “You” worked hard to get to where you are. No more self pity my darling get up
- “You’re right! Forget Christian!” I said, feeling a surge of energy. “
- After my shower, I stood in front of my closet, unsure of what to wear to this gathering . Today, I had to make a strong impression. The old Yvonne would’ve chosen something simple, but today, I grabbed the navy blue body fitted dress my mom had given me for my birthday. The dress screamed confidence and power. This was the new me- not the girl who had been cheated on and betrayed.
- With my baby girl dressed and ready, I met my mom in the living room. “How do I look?” I asked, smoothing down the front of my dress.
- She grinned and gave me a thumbs–up. “You look like you’re ready to take over the world. Go get ‘em.”
- With a deep breath, I grabbed my bag and Olympia, yes I named my daughter Olympia after my mom. Determined to leave the past behind–at least for today. I walked down and settled behind my car while my driver helped me out a few things in the car. My mom would come later.
- When I arrived at our estate, no wait! Christian’s estate. I was greeted by Chris the security. He was friendly, always has been.
- As I and Olympia approached the door of my former home, anxiety bubbled up inside me. I opened the door and stepped in and found my way to one of the nearest sitting rooms . Everyone was already settled in.
- “Let’s all get settled,” Christian’s mom said. I did my best not to look at Christian . Christian’s dad or brother will be joining us shortly, my husband is not in the country right now so it's likely his brother will stand in for him at the moment.” Christian’s mom said with a smile as she took her seat.
- Everyone went quiet, and my heart pounded. A knot formed in my stomach.
- My breath caught in my throat as the man from last night walked in and sat at the head of the table. I closed my eyes for a second, wondering if I was dreaming or if my mind was playing tricks on me. When I opened them again, our eyes locked for a second, both of us clearly shocked. But then, just as quickly, he switched to a calm, professional look, acting like he didn’t know me at all.
- “This can’t be real…” My thoughts raced. It was him. I couldn’t stop staring. He was just as handsome as remembered. How could I forget those dark eyes that seemed to look right through me? Those hands that brought me so much pleasure… My gaze dropped to his hands resting on the table.
- “Hello, everyone. I’m Alex Owen, CEO of Georgio fashion jewelry and wrist watches. Welcome to this meeting . It's not a happy one but we have to get this done so our children go their ways.
- Children?
- Now I was a child? Was he serious? I don't even know why I was angry about that statement, he owed me nothing.
- My head was spinning. His name was Alex Owen… Christian Owen. That meant he was Christian’s Father or uncle?! Uncle off course . I had met Christian’s dad before our wedding.
- Oh, my God!
- The man from last night at the gala who I made out with is my husband's uncle? Will soon be ex- husband's uncle.
- My stomach dropped..
- Immediately I grab my baby and leave. My mom follows behind me, both still trying to process the whole thing. We left, not minding what anyone would say. We were moved by impulse. My mom decided to ride with me so I wouldn't do something foolish I guess.
- I had a lot to say, I can tell she did on our ride home but none of us could say a word..
