Chapter 8 Everyone Has High Hopes For You

  • Helena rolled her eyes at Christopher.
  • Are you seriously asking that at a time like this? Also, what's with the pause when you ask if she made a political move? Why does that sound like something the head of an illegal organization would say? I am starting to suspect you, Christopher. Are you involved in something illegal?
  • At that moment, Linda smirked. “My father is an honorary member of the board of trustees, and your b*tch has just injured me. She also broke the rules when she brought you to our class. Just you two wait. The security guards will come and kick you out soon enough.”
  • Immediately, Christopher knew what was going on.
  • “An honorary member of the board of trustees? Pfft, and I thought he was someone powerful. Don't worry, Honey. I'll make a call too and make a political move as well.”
  • Christopher walked to a corner and fished out his phone to dial a number.
  • “Hey, do I have any status at Tayhaven University?”
  • “Hang on, let me check. Hmm... Ah, there it is. One of your disciples, Thomas Durdane, is the richest man in the city, and he donated a hundred million to the university in your name. That makes you a permanent honorary member of the board of trustees, a permanent honorary doctor, and—”
  • “Hold on. Stop! How are these statuses you speak of any better than an ordinary honorary member of the board?”
  • “Oh, those are so much better. An honorary member of the board is nothing compared to you.”
  • “I see. Someone of that status is trying to mess with me. I need you to do me a favor and mess with them as well. Also, there's a student by the name of Linda Rand. She's a student in her fourth year in biology who often bullies her classmates. I will be here for a while, and I don't want to see her around!”
  • “Yes, My Lord. I will deal with it right away. Please wait.”
  • After hanging up the call, Christopher returned to the others.
  • Naturally, Linda had no idea who she had pissed off or what power he held. She looked at him and said triumphantly, “I've seen countless people bluffing, but I have never seen anyone as shameless as you. Come on, then. Show me who you have backing you up.”
  • Christopher simply smiled and didn't bother to spare her a glance.
  • Instead, he walked up to Helena and said in a hushed voice, “Everything is settled, Honey. I'll wait for you in the parking lot since I don't need to be here to deal with something so minor.”
  • Helena was taken aback, but Christopher had already waved goodbye and left the classroom.
  • Ugh! He actually left. I can't believe he's such a coward. Also, he's headed to the parking lot. Is he really into Marina?
  • Damn you, you jerk! You know that I am in trouble and will have to spend some time here, so you found an excuse to leave me behind. All that just so you can go flirt with another woman?
  • Helena was exasperated.
  • She let out a sigh and was going to deal with the troublesome issue presented in front of her when Linda's phone rang.
  • It was a call from her father, the business tycoon.
  • The second she accepted the call, her father bellowed, “You unfilial daughter! Are you trying to piss me off? Apologize to the person you crossed right away! Do it now! Immediately! You hear me? Gah, never mind. It's my fault for spoiling you. Get the person to stay there. I'm coming over to the university now.”
  • Beep!
  • Linda stared at her phone, dumbstruck.
  • Very quickly, urgent footsteps were heard from outside the classroom.
  • The vice president of the university was leading a group of leaders, including the dean of the School of Biological Sciences, to the classroom.
  • The girls had never seen a commotion like that before. They were scared out of their minds.
  • Linda, too, was shocked. She didn't know what to do at all.
  • Upon entering the classroom, the vice president, who had seen all sorts of drama before, could immediately guess the relationship among the girls.
  • He cleared his throat and asked, “May I know which one of you is Ms. Helena York?”
  • Helena was a little surprised as well.
  • “I am.”
  • The vice president cocked an eyebrow. He rushed over right away and greeted warmly, “Ah, so you're Helena York. I've long heard about you, and it is our honor to have you here at our university. Don't you worry. Tayhaven University will never condone any form of bullying.”
  • With that, he turned to look at Linda.
  • “You must be Linda Rand then? Why is a student like you all covered in tattoos? And what's with that dyed hair? Looks like it's time for our university to have a clean-up. You, come with me, and boys, take her accomplices away!”
  • A few security guards came over, taking the confused Linda and her disoriented friends away.
  • After that, the vice president smiled at Helena once more and said, “Ms. York, you just got here. If you have any problem at all, please inform the head of the department. You are one of our most important students, and everyone has high hopes for you.”
  • Having finished saying his words, the vice president and the others left in a hurry, leaving Samantha and Helena in the classroom with many questions in their minds.
  • God... He actually made a political move? He even got the vice president to lead everyone over. I can't believe he is capable of all that.
  • Helena considered the situation a while before she turned to Samantha and said, “Everything is fine now. You should hurry back to your dorm. I'm sure Linda and the others wouldn't dare to bully you anymore after this incident.”
  • Samantha looked at Helena gratefully and thought about the so-called husband the latter had.
  • “Is that man really your lover?”
  • Helena was nonplussed, but she nodded reluctantly.
  • “Sort of...”
  • “Your lover is so amazing! All it took is one call from him to settle the issue! I will remember this incident and be thankful for the rest of my life. Helena, please remember to thank your lover for me. Oh, and about the thing you asked me earlier... I was too scared to recall everything, but I will go home and think hard tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow.”
  • Helena was pleased to hear that. “Okay, feel free to call me whenever you recall anything.”
  • “All right. I'll head home now. Remember to thank your lover for me.”
  • Helena walked toward the parking lot, wondering who the man she recently married was.
  • Is he really as powerful as he claimed to be?
  • Upon arrival, she looked up, only to see Christopher beaming at Marina. Instantly, her face clouded over.
  • Marina was practically ignoring him the entire time, but that did not stop the man from chatting her up.
  • Hmph, I may not know if you are a powerful figure, but one thing is for sure—you are a man who thinks below the belt.
  • The truth, however, was that Christopher wasn't talking to Marina because he was actually into her; his true objective was to learn more about Helena.
  • After all, his newly wedded wife was simply too mysterious.
  • Yet, he was unlucky because Helena showed up right then.
  • Helena deliberately cleared her throat loudly when she approached the car.
  • Christopher's heart jumped. He quickly turned around and asked, “Honey, is everything settled?”
  • Helena shot Marina a look before saying calmly, “Yeah, I'm fine, thanks to you. Samantha is out of trouble as well. She asked me to thank you on her behalf.”
  • “Haha, it's nothing. It's just a small issue, anyway. Where shall we head to next?”
  • I definitely won't learn anything useful if I bring him along to my meeting with Ulric, Helena thought.
  • “Marina, I will be busy later in the afternoon, so please keep my husband company today and treat him to a meal.”
