Chapter 13 Getting Into A Fight

  • There in the living room, an invisible smoke permeated the air.
  • Both of them were smoldering with indignation.
  • Christopher had thought that Helena was the perfect match for him. But to his dismay, she didn't trust him and now she was suspecting him.
  • Helena, on the other hand, was angry because she had bought Samantha's words. The former was convinced that Christopher was somehow linked to the murderer.
  • Both sides were raring to fight, and the atmosphere in the room was extremely tense.
  • Just then, Christopher put one hand in his pocket and lifted the other.
  • “Don't be so sure how good your self-defense skills are, Helena. I am more than happy to show you how weak you are if you truly wish to fight me.”
  • His nonchalant appearance broke the last strand of sanity in Helena.
  • Fine! I have never been one to sit idly by, anyway. If this punk insists on getting himself in trouble, then I will take him down a notch!
  • Helena didn't bother wasting her breath as she lifted her leg and aimed for Christopher's gut.
  • Christopher didn't see that coming, but he managed to protect himself by grabbing her leg with just one hand.
  • “Come now, show me what you got. Let me teach you a valuable lesson of how there's no such thing as being on top of every field.”
  • Helena snorted. She retracted her leg quickly before jumping high. Her other leg moved like a dagger zipping through the air, aiming for the man's manhood.
  • Christopher's eyes widened. Damn, this b*tch is cruel! We haven't even gotten a divorce and yet she's already thinking about castrating me.
  • That kick truly got under Christopher's skin.
  • “Who do you think you are? Do not assume that you can overwhelm me!”
  • Instantly, he swirled around like a spinning top.
  • Helena stared in surprise, and before she knew it, the man was already beside her.
  • Christopher reached out and grabbed her shoulder.
  • She backed away immediately, but Christopher still managed to grab the clothes on her shoulder, ripping off a huge chunk of them.
  • Her fair skin ended up being exposed right in front of him.
  • And that was the moment when Helena completely lost it.
  • She was a special forces agent and a leader in the military, not some nameless nobody.
  • Christopher's moves were simple, but he was quick and accurate.
  • The murderer is an extremely skilled fighter, too! This man might just be the culprit.
  • Helena ignored her torn clothes. She lowered her body and assumed a battle stance.
  • As an expert, Christopher immediately recognized her stance and he couldn't help but chuckle.
  • “It seems that my wife has more than just basic self-defense skills. You can fight like a master as well. Interesting...”
  • Christopher kept one hand in his pocket, but his breathing changed as soon as he finished speaking. The change was just as drastic as Helena's.
  • Realizing that, like her, Christopher was also a trained fighter, Helena frowned. And to top it all off, he was a master in his field.
  • The married couple glared at each other for about three seconds, then made their move simultaneously, exchanging kicks and punches, wrecking everything in the living room.
  • Right then, when the fight was at its peak ferocity, someone banged on their door, and that forced them to put their fight on pause. The commotion had caught their neighbors' attention.
  • However, neither wanted to answer the door as they shot daggers at each other.
  • One of them was a special forces agent who was tasked with a unique mission, while the other was a peerless powerhouse who had been living in seclusion.
  • Neither would be able to live in peace if they had their identities exposed because of this marital drama.
  • At that juncture, an idea flashed across Christopher's mind. He burst out laughing and gave Helena a hug.
  • Helena was about to yell at him and fight back when his magnetic voice rang in her ear.
  • “I know you have secrets. Follow my lead and answer the door with me if you don't want them exposed! Do not speak or complain.”
  • Helena remained silent.
  • Christopher took it as her acquiescence. He draped his arm around her shoulder and answered the door, only to see a group of people standing there.
  • They were Christopher's neighbors who had come to complain about the noises. However, their anger dissipated when they saw the disheveled state of the married couple and the living room.
  • “Uh, is everything all right, Chris?”
  • Christopher gave them a sheepish grin. “Of course. We were just having some fun!”
  • “Jeez, Chris. We're all neighbors, and we wish you the best, but you guys were a little too loud...”
  • Christopher nodded. “Right, sorry about that. We'll keep our voices down.”
  • “Okay, rest well.”
  • The neighbors left after that.
  • As soon as the door was closed, Helena struggled to break free from Christopher's arm.
  • “Are you done hugging me?”
  • Christopher smiled. “You haven't even borne me a child, so no.”
  • “You!” Helena was about to lose her temper again, but the intense fight earlier got her to calm down. She could finally think rationally again.
  • He's right. I was the one who spied on him for two days at Matchmaking Park, and I was the one who initiated contact.
  • My hypothesis about him approaching me on purpose to hinder my investigation is logically flawed.
  • Noticing that the woman's gaze was turning less hostile, Christopher suggested, “Shall we have a civilized chat?”
  • He poured Helena a cup of warm water, then picked up a chair on the floor and sat down.
  • “Who are you?” the two of them asked in unison. “I asked first!”
  • “I am your husband!”
  • “I am your wife!”
  • They were dumbfounded. Little did they expect them to be so alike.
  • They looked at each other and broke out into a fit of laughter.
  • “Hey, did we just make up after getting into a fight?”
  • “I guess so.”
  • Christopher, too, simmered down after the fight.
  • “Ms. Zimmerman said something about me after I left, didn't she?”
  • “Yeah, she did,” Helena answered evenly. “The two victims had something in common. They both met up with a mysterious man on the day they were murdered. Samantha claimed that the mysterious man's back and the way he walked are similar to you.”
  • A revelation hit Christopher.
  • “That is why you thought I was the murderer?”
  • “Yes.”
  • Christopher thought about it and said, “Helena, I think there are some misunderstandings between us. Of course, I still think there is something off about Ms. Zimmerman.”
  • Helena did not share that opinion.
  • “I'm sure you can tell, but Samantha is a gentle woman. I think she must've remembered wrongly or made a mistake. That's why she mistook you for the mysterious man. Don't worry, you're no longer a suspect in this matter anymore.”
  • Christopher failed to stifle a laugh. “So... does that mean I am still a suspect in other matters?”
  • Helena replied, “Of course you are. I have tons of questions for you. For example, why are you an expert in martial arts?”
