Chapter 14 Good For You

  • “It's all there in my folder, right? I know everything, and that includes all types of martial arts,” Christopher boasted.
  • Helena didn't really believe him, so she challenged, “Then what type of martial arts was I using earlier?”
  • “Well, that's easy. It's a martial art that is rather popular in Chanaea, called the Balanced Source. The key principle of the technique is that everything has its unique properties and therefore belongs in a unique spot. The Balanced Source branches out and creates every other form of martial arts that is rooted in imitating objects or animals. Naturally, a practitioner must be gifted. It's not a technique that everyone can master, and you are one of the better fighters.” Christopher spoke eloquently, causing Helena to be surprised.
  • I can't believe he actually knows about martial arts. Does that mean that the random guy I married to is a treasure?
  • “You sound like an expert.”
  • “Not at all. I am just a dude with normal human emotions.” Christopher laughed. “Okay, let's not talk about that anymore. I believe we have the same question burning in our hearts. We want to know who each other really is. So, how about we both confess? Do you want to go first?”
  • Helena giggled, amused.
  • “Putting everything aside, I truly admire the way you deal with life. You're direct and candid, and that is something truly rare. However, there really is nothing special about me. I am just a university student who is also the owner of a small company. You, on the other hand, are probably an extraordinary man.”
  • Christopher chuckled. “I am just a nobody who just returned to the country. I do have some skills, but all I want to do now is to experience life in this city to its fullest.”
  • The couple looked into each other's eyes.
  • A second later, they exclaimed simultaneously, “You're lying!”
  • Helena got up and groaned, “I'm done talking to you. I can figure out who you are at any time, anyway.”
  • Christopher got up as well. “Well, what a coincidence. That is exactly what I was going to say.”
  • Helena's temper sparked. “Okay then. We'll call our people now. The first person to figure out who the other person is wins.”
  • “You're on!” Christopher stood up and looked at her with great interest.
  • With that, they returned to their respective rooms and called their respective subordinates.
  • In Christopher's room.
  • “How may I assist you, My Lord?”
  • “Look into a woman called Helena York. I want to know everything about her in one minute!”
  • “Understood, My Lord. Please wait for a moment.”
  • One minute later.
  • “Helena York is an exchange student at Tayhaven University. She previously studied at Jadeborough University. She is also the largest shareholder and the person-in-charge of a company called Helena's Technologies.”
  • “Is that all you have?”
  • “There is one thing we are certain of. Some of the information gathered is fake.”
  • “Then get me the real info!”
  • “I'm sorry, My Lord. We are certain that the information is fake, but the forger is extremely good at it. Please give us some time. We will find out as soon as possible.”
  • “Okay.”
  • Christopher then hung up the phone, his interest piqued.
  • Even Empyrean can't figure her out and can only be certain that her identity is fake... Hah, my wife really is something else.
  • In Helena's room.
  • “Look into a person for me, Leslie. His name is Christopher Lawson, and he just came back from abroad. I want to know everything about him within the minute!”
  • “Understood. Please give me a moment... Got it! Christopher Lawson, twenty-five years old. There is no record of what he did outside the country, but there are quite a few Christopher Lawsons within the country... Wow, I can't finish reading in one minute!”
  • “What is it?”
  • “He has too many identities... or maybe it's more accurate to say that there are too many people out there with the same first and last name? Never mind, I'll send you the file so you know what I mean.”
  • Helena received a large file soon after.
  • When she clicked into the folder, she was dumbstruck, dazzled by the many Christopher Lawson entries.
  • Many things were named after him—skyscrapers, international projects, elementary schools in the most rural region, and many more.
  • How is it possible for someone to hold so many identities? Or is that name really that common?
  • “I'll give you an extension. Verify the Christopher Lawsons here and find out where they are and what they do for a living.”
  • “Understood! But, uh, it might take some time.”
  • “It's fine. I can wait. Can you get everything done in three months?”
  • “Yes, I will surely get the job done.”
  • “Okay, I'll wait for your good news.”
  • A hint of a grin crept up the corners of Helena's mouth as she hung up the call.
  • Interesting... Who would've thought that the random dude I met in Matchmaking Park has this kind of power? How can someone so powerful even exist in this world?
  • The couple opened their respective doors at the same time and saw each other.
  • “So, how did it go? Have you figured out who I am?” Christopher started with a smile.
  • Helena smiled back at him and responded, “There are too many Christopher Lawsons out there, but I will verify each and every one of them and narrow the list down. How about you? Any idea who I am?”
  • Christopher replied, “All I can be certain of is that your identity is fake. Your ability to disguise is beyond my expectations.”
  • “I have been honest this entire time. That just proved that my identity is real.”
  • Christopher refused to admit defeat. “You may have my file, but you also claimed that there are too many of me. Doesn't that mean you haven't learned anything about me either?”
  • Suddenly having a brainwave, Helena said, “Okay, then let's call this a draw. However, I want to make a bet with you.”
  • She looked at Christopher mischievously as she spoke.
  • “How do you want to bet?”
  • “Easy. We have a three-month deal, don't we? I will marry you and be your legal wife if you figure out who I am within that period. But if you fail to do so, our marriage will come to an end three months later.”
  • Christopher smiled. “You spoke my mind. If I can't figure out who you are in three months, I will do as you asked. However, I hope you will stay true to your words when I accomplish what I set out to do.”
  • “Deal. And before that, we're still the same married couple as yesterday. How's that?”
  • “Of course. Life... must go on.”
  • Helena chuckled. “You know, I kind of like your personality.”
  • Right then, struck upon a memory, Christopher asked, “By the way, how did you deal with Ulric? If I'm right, he should be up now and have probably called the cops. Will the police come to get your statement later?”
  • “If he called the cops, then it would mean that he is not involved in either crime.” Helena looked out the window. “But if he didn't call the cops, then it means that he is connected to the murders somehow. This is the trap that I have set up for him.”
  • “Uh, Honey”—Christopher cleared his throat—” you probably shouldn't go to the balcony. You'll risk exposing your melons.”
  • It turned out that Helena's shoulders had been exposed after the fight.
  • Helena blushed and rolled her eyes at Christopher.
  • As she headed to her room, she harrumphed and said, “Well, good for you!”
  • I admire your personality too. Christopher rubbed his nose and watched as she walked away.
