Chapter 7 A Political Move

  • Men like Ulric, who were born with a silver spoon, don't need any certification at all.
  • His only objective of attending Tayhaven University was to court women.
  • That day, he was extremely satisfied because Helena, the exchange student, had agreed to go on a date with him.
  • Hence, it was only natural that he went out to get her a gift.
  • At the same time, he wanted to find out who Christopher was.
  • After Ulric left, Christopher's face fell.
  • Helena knew that Christopher was just an innocent bystander who didn't know the whole truth. Not wanting him to feel bad, she grinned and explained, “Darling, I'm only having dinner with him to get an extremely profitable business contract. There is nothing else between us. Also, Marina is waiting for you in the parking lot.”
  • With that, she took off and ran the other way, looking as though she was jealous.
  • Christopher smiled bitterly and went after her in silence.
  • Shortly after, they arrived at the Biological Sciences Building.
  • The room where the two victims met their ends was the laboratory on the top floor of the building.
  • Hence, it was understandable why Christopher saw a gloomy expression on every passing student.
  • He was obviously an outsider, but everyone was distracted in class. Even the lecturer failed to notice him.
  • Helena didn't have any other classes after the lecture that morning.
  • Just as the two of them were about to leave, a few female students exchanged glances before they cornered another student and prevented her from leaving.
  • Seeing that, Helena frowned and walked over.
  • The leader of that gang looked over and sneered, “You're just an exchange student, Helena. How dare you get in my way?”
  • The student in question had blonde hair and tattoos that were faintly discernible.
  • The girl who was surrounded by the others looked at Helena appreciatively, but she eventually said, “Helena, this is my business. Just ignore me and leave. Linda is not someone you can afford to piss off.”
  • Linda Rand was the leader of that little gang.
  • Helena said coldly, “Don't worry, Samantha. I won't let anyone bully you?”
  • “Oh, so you are getting in my way, huh?” Linda snorted. “Are you sure you want to cross me while you're still studying at this university?”
  • Linda's father was a famous business tycoon in Tayhaven. He had donated a sizeable fund to Tayhaven University in the past.
  • The university, therefore, had made him an honorary member of the board of trustees, and that allowed Linda to terrorize the place.
  • Samantha, on the other hand, was from a poor family and was an innocent young woman who had been bullied by Linda for the past three years.
  • Linda would vent her frustration on Samantha whenever she was upset.
  • The teachers and the tutors had received countless complaints, but Linda's father was too powerful, so they could only give her a verbal warning every time.
  • That day, Linda had had her heart broken, so she wanted to take it out on Samantha.
  • She was already in a foul mood and seeing how an exchange student had meddled in her affair only made her more upset.
  • Helena looked at Linda without fear and said solemnly, “Samantha is my friend, and I will not let you bully her.”
  • “So I guess you are serious about interfering, huh?” Linda sneered, then turning to the other students, she snarled, “What are you people still doing here?”
  • Some students were going to stay and study in the classroom, but upon hearing Linda's words, they quickly put their books away and left as if they were running for their lives, leaving only Helena and a few others in the classroom.
  • Helena turned to Christopher and said, “Please excuse us for a while.”
  • Christopher's eyes bulged. How can I leave under these circumstances?
  • He was about to make his move when Helena's gaze turned darker. The aura she exuded didn't give much room for negotiation, and it was overwhelming.
  • “We're outside now, so I will not make you look bad. We're married, and couples should understand each other.”
  • Christopher couldn't refute her words. He smiled in return and walked toward the door to leave the place.
  • “Okay, Honey, but remember to call me if there's anything.”
  • Only then did Linda learn about their relationship.
  • “So that's your husband? You always boast about how amazing your husband is, but it seems that he's just a useless piece of crap. His wife is about to get beaten up, but he just left without doing anything.”
  • Helena scoffed, “There's no saying who will end up getting beaten up. So? How shall we do this?”
  • Linda was already used to being arrogant. She lifted her chin and said, “We have five people with us, whereas you are on your own. Even if this good-for-nothing idiot helps you, your team will still be at a disadvantage. So, how do you think we should settle this?” After a brief pause, she turned to look at the other girls. “Well, don't just stand there. Get her and teach her a lesson!”
  • The girls attacked right away. They were going to use their usual techniques—pinching, slapping, and hair-pulling—to fight.
  • Helena didn't bother looking at the girls. She lifted her hand and swung her fist, striking Linda's nose.
  • Helena had a motto. She would attack any target within her reach and would not waste her breath.
  • Right then, all Linda felt was a warm liquid oozing out of her.
  • That was when she realized that her nose was bleeding after the punch.
  • “You b*tch! I will kill you.”
  • Linda raised her hand, wanting to slap Helena.
  • The latter stood on the spot and was as firm as the tallest mountain. She gave the former another slap, sending her flying toward the wall.
  • Upon witnessing that, the other girls were scared out of their wits. They didn't dare to mess with a fighter like that.
  • Linda had her hand on her nose as she shouted, “Whoever gets her pinned on the floor will be rewarded with a branded purse!”
  • Money could motivate anyone to do anything.
  • The girls summoned up their courage and surrounded Helena at once.
  • Helena snorted inwardly. Readying herself, she swept her leg over and knocked down the girls.
  • Thereafter, she walked up to Samantha and helped her to her feet. The latter had her eyes closed the entire time because she was too afraid to watch.
  • “Let's leave together. Come to me if she ever bullies you again.”
  • “You can't leave!” Linda growled, ignoring the sharp pain and blocking Helena's path.
  • Helena's gaze darkened. “What do you want?”
  • Linda took out her phone and shouted, “You think you can leave after the stunt you just pulled? You injured a student! A stupid exchange student like you can crawl back to where you came from.”
  • Linda made a call.
  • She sobbed and spoke into the phone for a while before she hung up with an evil grin.
  • “You injured my nose and got me to bleed. With so many witnesses around, you are done for!”
  • Helena furrowed her brows. She was strategizing and thinking about how to deal with the issue when Christopher barged in after hearing the commotion.
  • When he saw the girls on the ground, he immediately knew what had happened.
  • My wife's so-called PTSD got the hooligans to writhe in pain, so it's only natural that these girls would suffer.
  • At the sight of Christopher, Linda added, “Your man is not our classmate, but you brought him to class. That broke the rules as well. With two offenses, you will surely be expelled from Tayhaven University, Helena.”
  • Hearing that, Helena finally realized the magnitude of the issue.
  • She didn't care about Linda, but it would not help her investigation if things spiraled out of control.
  • Just then, Christopher piped up, “Honey, did she call someone and... make a political move?”
