Chapter 13

• After some back and forth over the logistics of their newly renegotiated relationship, there were some expected and unexpected changes.
• Nathan suggested that they use a messaging app instead of trading phone numbers, so they could text and call (step 7 in his plan) as if it were a regular phone, but it would keep Kelly safe because he couldn’t look up her phone number. When she told him her phone couldn’t run apps, she had an old ‘dumb’ flip phone instead of a smartphone because it was the cheapest thing she could get, and he pushed her to get a new phone. He offered to send her a thousand dollars for the phone and instructed her to tell him how much the monthly payment was once she had it. She reminded him she didn’t have a credit card, and he said he would send her an additional thousand, telling her to pay the security deposit and ask for up-front billing to pay in cash.
• Kelly objected lightly since she wasn’t exactly sad about getting a new phone and being more up-to-date, but he deposited the money into her account without even indulging her by arguing about it. He then told her she should get a debit card linked to her bank account so she wasn’t carrying around so much money.
