Chapter 7

  • I turned around to face the students, and there were curious stares printed on each of their faces.
  • Yes, I'd just taken down Sandra in one smooth move, and they must be wondering who I was and what special powers lay hidden in my garment, but truth be told. I had no special powers nor do I have any wolf abilities that could have aided in my fighting skills. It was just all me.
  • If this fight had allowed everyone to use their wolf powers, firstly my cover would have been blown across the entire school that I was wolfless.
  • Secondly, I might not have stood a chance against a student who could shift into their wolf and also knows how to fight too, and in Sandra's case, I just got lucky with her despite how strong she was.
  • Thirdly, I was going to be an easy target in school. Everyone would want to pick me as their object of ridicule and I can't afford for that to happen.
  • I need to harness my fighting skills and grow stronger
  • So, in this case, kicking Sandra's ass was a good choice.
  • “How strong is she?” I heard one of the students mutter.
  • “She just beat Sandra's ass like it's nothing for the second time, she must be so strong,” another added.
  • The trainer stepped forward, his eyes on me, “And now we have our winner, Millicent,” he smiled at me and I acknowledged with a nod.
  • I was about to go to the winning team when loud gasps emanated from the students.
  • “You fucking bitch!”
  • I turned around to see what was happening.
  • It was Sandra… she had embraced her wolf slightly. Her claws were out in the open, impatient to drive themselves into my skin and her eyes had turned a lighter shade of red.
  • Her face was red with fury. I had just beaten her and embarrassed her in front of everyone, so, it was expected.
  • I stayed glued to my spot, wondering what she would do. For some reason, I knew what she was going to do, perhaps I was just being too arrogant to think I would defeat her in that state again. A second thought told me to run but no, that would plant doubts in people, and that would tag me as a clown.
  • My brows furrowed.
  • I turned to face her squarely, balancing my feet strongly on the ground and raising my arms forward in the air, I balled my hands into a first.
  • “Bring it on,” I ignited, fuelling her anger, and she dashed forward.
  • Shit!
  • She was damn fast… way too, faster than when we fought yesterday. Was she hiding her full powers before?
  • A sense of doubt crossed my mind, just when I thought she was aiming for my face, she disappeared into thin air and reappeared at my back in a flash.
  • No!
  • I wasn't going to make it, I tried to turn, but I was too slow to make it on time and just when I was pretty sure she was going to hit me, someone stepped between us and grabbed Sandra's hand.
  • “Didn't I make mention of not using one's wolf's ability?” It was Ralph, the trainer. His voice was cold and stern.
  • I released a breath.
  • Jeez! That was close…
  • Sandra calmed down, her claws caving in, “But that bitch—”
  • “You are disqualified,” Ralph shunned, and Sandra snapped her gaze to him, her eyes widening in disbelief.
  • “What?”
  • “Because I used foul language?” she glared at the trainer, and I rolled my eyes.
  • Seriously?
  • “No because you broke the rule by using your wolf,” Ralph uttered.
  • “But we were done with our match,” she argued.
  • “Exactly? Why then do you have to get back at her after losing?” Trainer Ralph retorted, and I was loving him already.
  • Sandra scoffed, yanking her hands from him. She flickered her gaze at me and I could feel the hate emanating from her core.
  • Our eyes held on to each other longer than they should, with each of us stubborn enough not to look away or back out but then Sandra retreated. I made sure of that.
  • She turned around and stormed out of the hall.
  • I sighed and rubbed my temple.
  • Those were not just any looks, but they were threats and warnings that I was in serious trouble.
  • “I must commend you for your fighting skill earlier, that was amazing.” Trainer Ralph turned to me. There was a small smile tugging at the far end of his lips.
  • “Good job, Milicent,” he patted my right arm slightly before he walked away.
  • Good job?
  • Someone finally appraised me, unlike my father who always told me I needed to push harder—to push past my limit.
  • I was being acknowledged and a surge of fulfillment filled me to put in my best the more.
  • I was still lost in my thoughts when I noticed the twins surrounding me. I tried to walk away from them, but greeny eyes blocked my path, and he smirked at me.
  • “You are interesting, I would give you that,”
  • "Mind telling us where you learned to fight so good, pumpkin?” he asked amusingly, cocking his head and folding his arm over his chest.
  • For the century, I would love to know his name. I knew the name of his other twin, who was staring at me like a creep.
  • Zayne.
  • I tried to move again, but greeny eyes blocked my path once more and he grinned. He was starting to get on my nerves.
  • I snapped my eyes at him. “If you would please excuse me, I have other things to do,” I spoke through my teeth.
  • “Come on, why don't you enjoy the attention we are giving you not many girls are privileged to even talk to us,” he smirked.
  • “Yeah, right,” I scoffed.
  • “Xander, you are up next,” Trainer Ralph called, and he looked behind me.
  • Cool… Xander, it is.
  • “I guess it's my turn now,” he moved closer to me, and I wondered what he wanted to do.
  • He lowered himself and leaned forward to the side of my face. “You are welcome to watch,” he whispered into my ear, brushing his lips against my earlobe slightly, and I shuddered.
  • I gasped, almost flinching away from him.
  • He chuckled at my reaction and straightened himself, his height towered over me as he walked past me.
  • Why did I just react that way?
  • Then I realized his twin was still staring at me.
  • “What?” I snapped at him. He didn't say anything, instead he just walked after Xander.
  • I sighed and walked out of the hall.
  • I need to catch a break.
  • “Hey!”
  • “Hey!!” I kept on walking when someone tapped my arm and I screeched to a halt.
  • I turned my head over my shoulder sharply, and I saw it was the red-haired girl from earlier who tried to help me when Sandra pushed me to the ground.
  • I frowned.
  • How persistent could she be?
  • “Uhm, Hi…” she said nervously, an anxious smile following after.
  • “I-I… I'm Fiona,” she introduced, and I rolled my eyes in response.
  • Call me rude, but my nerves were all over the place at the moment.
  • I seriously do need a break, I'm not even joking.
