Chapter 2
- “I’m—” I started, but she was quick to shut me up.
- “I didn’t say you could talk back to me, did I?” She glared.
- I sighed. Of course, the first rule of being bullied was never to talk back at your oppressor. Yeah, right.
- “I’m Millicent,” I smiled calmly. I saw the anger flash in her eyes that I had managed to do exactly what she asked me not to do.
- “You should shut your mouth, tramp.”
- I kept quiet. There was no point in making a scene when everyone was watching. It was my first day, after all, I shouldn’t cause problems on my first day.
- “Who are you?” She questioned. I didn’t say a word, she had asked me to keep my mouth shut, and I was planning to follow that instruction to the end.
- She became angry. “Don’t you have a mouth or are you suddenly dumb now?” She yelled.
- “You asked me to shut up and I have. I can’t talk until you give me permission to,” I snickered, and I heard people mutter and whisper around us.
- Sandra turned to glare at them, causing people to shut up and pretend like they were doing other things. She must have a hold on the people here.
- “I asked you a question, and you’re expected to answer it. Who are you?” She snapped at me and I leaned backward, careful not to get caught by her sharp nails.
- “I’m Millicent,” I repeated, knowing the fact that wasn’t the answer she wanted. She looked like she was about to rip my head clean off my neck for that.
- “I know your name, idiot. Who’s your father? Are you one of those poor orphans they pity and allow to come to school with us?” She asked, saying the word ‘orphan’ like it was a slur.
- “I’m not, I assure you.” I looked at her sharply. I wanted to be done with this already, I hated how much time I had spent here already since it seemed like she wasn’t going to let go of me anytime soon. I glanced around her and that only pissed her off more.
- “You look at me when I’m talking to you!” She raised her hand to slap me, but I quickly moved out of the way. There were many things I could ensure, being spoken to condescendingly was one of them but getting physically assaulted was not going to be an option.
- “Don’t try to hit me, you will regret it,” I creased my brows at her. The whispers around seemed to increase loudly and even glare didn’t stop it this time. I could see phones going up to record and while I was worried about it getting back to my father, it would be even worse if he saw that I cowered.
- The only thing my father wouldn’t forgive was weakness, the very thing he had trained me against.
- I thought she would stop, but it looked like she was only getting ready. She stepped closer to me and I thought she was about to hit me once more, but she whispered in my ears.
- “You don’t know how much trouble you’re in. You’ll soon learn never to speak to me in such a manner. You’re nobody when it comes to me, and you don’t get to try to take the spotlight off me. I am the only one deserving of it and You. Are. A. Nobody!”
- Everyone within hearing distance could hear her last words even if they didn’t hear the others. She wanted to bully me because I threatened her spotlight? What are we? Thirteen?
- “You're getting too hot and bothered by a nobody right now, Sandra Patel,” I said. The use of her name only infuriated her further. She hated that I already knew about her when she knew nothing about me. That's how it was with people like her.
- “You bitch!” She moved towards me with a speed that could only be propelled by a wolf and came at me with extended claws. I managed to sidestep in time to move away without getting scratched.
- I hit her with my elbow as she passed by, causing her to stumble. She only caught herself in time before she fell. I didn't want to do anything but my skills had subconsciously kicked in.
- Since I didn't have a wolf yet, my father had made sure I knew how to fight on my own. He enrolled me in every fighting class possible, but I excelled most in martial arts.
- She turned to me once more, enraged, I could see her beginning to shift, and I knew if I didn't end this as soon as possible, I would be forced to surrender. Giving up was akin to a shameful death in my family.
- “Can you stop, please? I don't want to fight with you. It's only my first day here.” I tried to reason with her, but I knew in this state, she wouldn't respond until she was satiated, something I couldn't do unless I killed her or got killed myself.
- “You should have thought of that before you hit me.” She came at me again and I sidestepped once more. I didn't want to fight her. It was already in my records as the girl who was in a fight on her first day in school. I don't want to add ‘the girl who beat up the most popular girl in school’ to that list.
- “But you tried to hit me first, it just didn't land.” I knew it was barely no use trying to be reasonable with her. She was angry now. Too angry to be rational.
- “Do you even know who I am? No, you don't, else you wouldn't have done what you just did!” She screamed, and I could barely restrain myself from rolling my eyes.
- Why do they always have to make speeches? Yes, I didn't know who she was before, but I do now and that was the very reason I didn't want to fight her. She was the daughter of Alpha Patel, one of the most powerful alphas in the land which in turn would make her a powerful Luna once she graduated from the institute.
- I could understand why she was rude and considered herself to be the next best thing after good food, but that didn't matter here. According to the brochure I received, everyone was equal in rank until after graduation, as long as they were in the same grade. I didn't know what grade she was in but I sure as hell was going to show her just how equal we were.
- “Sandra, please. Just stop.” I added a pleading tone to my voice. She scoffed at my words but she at least stopped shifting.
- “Stop? Oh, honey. I have just started with you.” The bell rang for the commencement of classes but no one moved. All eyes were on us and the anticipation of what we would do next.
- I should end this. Even if I was a tiny bit afraid of her since she was powerful, that didn't mean I had to fight her.
- I turned away and wanted to walk away but was pulled back by my hair which hurt badly.
- “What the fuck?” I yelled out as I managed to release my hair from her fist. Before I could gather myself, she punched me.
