- By the time the last log in the fire turned to glowing ash, the chill in the air had crept under my skin. The professors stood near the center, calling us all closer like we weren’t already half asleep and half pissed from the cold soup and the mosquito orchestra playing in our ears.
- Professor Edden cleared his throat and waved a hand for silence. "Enough chatter. It’s lights out. Get to your tents, put out your fires, and be up by six sharp. We hike at dawn. No stragglers or excuses."
