- I dropped beside her on the bed and we leaned against each other like sisters do, her flipping through notes and gossip like she was feeding me pieces of the world I missed while I was fighting my own. She showed me her new ombre nail polish, gushed about a rumor that the cafeteria lady might kill someone soon if people keep asking for extra meatballs, complained about a teacher’s obsession with pop quizzes, and cracked jokes that somehow made the darkness inside me feel a bit lighter.
