Chapter 17 Seventeen
- I couldn’t breathe. The hospital air felt too thick, too heavy. My chest heaved as I stared at my father’s lifeless body, the man who had been my anchor for as long as I could remember. It felt surreal, like some twisted nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.
- “We are still running some tests and will get back to you in a few days,” the nurse adds, not taking any mind to the fact that her earlier words had left me aghast.
- Sorren stood beside me, his hand brushing mine as a gesture of comfort and support. For once, his presence didn’t feel forced or obligatory. He was just…there. And I needed that, even if I couldn’t admit it.
