Chapter 64
- William didn’t wait for the car to fully stop. He flung open the door and surged out, his legs carrying him across the asphalt with a speed he hadn’t known he possessed. The chill night air bit at his exposed skin, but he barely registered it. His focus was solely on Claire, who was now standing by the entrance of the motel, her back to him, the cab driver still lingering a few feet away.
- “Claire!” he yelled again, his voice cracking with urgency.
- She paused, her shoulders stiffening, but she didn’t turn around. The cab driver, however, looked up, startled by William’s sudden appearance. His eyes narrowed in annoyance.
