• Avery's voice was soft and gentle as she spoke, her words cutting through the darkness. "I know what you're thinking, Sebastian," she said, her hand still on his arm. "But you know what? I think I understand why Adam wants to be with Adeline."
• Sebastian didn't respond, didn't even look at her. But Avery could sense his attention, sense that he was listening to her.
• "I think Adam wants to be with Adeline because he knows that you can't stay away from him," Avery continued. "He knows that you'll follow him, that you'll want to be near him. And I think Adam is hoping that by being with Adeline, he can unite his parents."
