Chapter 9 You're Just A Substitute!

  • In the early morning, sparrows hopped around on the windowsill, occasionally pecking at the wooden window frame with their sharp beaks, making a crisp sound.
  • When the eyes cannot see, the ears become more sensitive.
  • Even such a small sound startled Huo Miao awake. He opened his eyes, but it was still pitch black in front of him.
  • He could feel the girl in his arms sleeping soundly, her fragrant hair lingering under his nose.
  • He gently reached out and stroked her smooth hair. The girl nestled closer to him in her sleep, breathing even more peacefully.
  • A smile that had been absent for a long time appeared on the corner of Huo Miao's lips.
  • For some reason, after losing his sight, he suddenly felt that the girl beside him resembled the girl from his childhood. During their previous relationship, certain moments with Lü He would make Huo Miao feel inexplicably unfamiliar.
  • Perhaps, after losing his sight, certain senses became unusually sensitive, allowing him to perceive things he couldn't before.
  • Unable to control his emotions, he held the girl in his arms tighter. Perhaps he exerted too much force, and Ye Manxi woke up.
  • When she opened her eyes, she saw Huo Miao's eyes. Although he couldn't see, his eyes still had a radiance, still deep, and so beautiful.
  • Ye Manxi reached out and gently touched his eyes. Huo Miao held her hand and kissed it, smiling and saying, "Did I wake you up?"
  • Ye Manxi shook her head, feeling her head being shaken in his embrace. Unable to resist, he lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "It's still early, go back to sleep for a while."
  • Huo Miao's lips were so soft. Ye Manxi was now fully awake, but she still wanted to nestle in Huo Miao's embrace for a while longer.
  • After all, their time together had a time limit.
  • Sometimes, Ye Manxi felt conflicted. She wanted to cure Huo Miao immediately, but once he was cured, she would have to leave immediately, and the chances of seeing him in the future would be slim.
  • She gazed at Huo Miao's handsome face, almost greedily. He had become much thinner. Ye Manxi couldn't help but feel sorry for him, thinking that she must fatten him up during this period of time.
  • "Listen, the little bird is chirping on the windowsill," Huo Miao said.
  • Ye Manxi heard it too, and it sounded so lovely.
  • She got up to make medicine for Huo Miao, while another stove was boiling porridge. Ye Manxi stood by the pot, holding a notebook and writing down Huo Miao's prescription for next week.
  • She didn't notice the footsteps behind her. Lü He's voice suddenly sounded, "How is Huo Miao doing?"
  • Ye Manxi was startled. She looked up and saw Ye Luhe standing in front of her, looking down at her condescendingly. "Oh, I forgot you're mute," Ye Luhe said.
  • She took the notebook from Ye Manxi's hand. She didn't recognize the densely written names of the Chinese medicinal herbs on it, and reluctantly handed it back to Ye Manxi.
  • "Let me tell you, treat Huo Miao well. If you can't cure him, don't even think about inheriting your grandfather's clinic. I'll make my father sell it!"
  • After the medicine was brewed, Ye Manxi didn't want to talk to her anymore. She carefully poured the medicine and prepared to go upstairs. Ye Luhe stopped her. "I'll feed him upstairs. You stay here and keep an eye on things."
  • Ye Manxi carried the medicine upstairs, while Ye Luhe snatched the tray from her hands and walked into the room.
  • Huo Miao sat by the window and smelled the aroma of the Chinese medicine. He smiled and turned his face towards Ye Luhe.
  • Seeing Huo Miao's smile, Ye Luhe's heart blossomed. She couldn't speak and felt like she was suffocating.
  • When they were dating, she had never seen him smile like this before.
  • She walked over with the tray and personally fed Huo Miao the medicine.
  • Ye Manxi stood at the door, watching Ye Luhe squatting on the ground, spoon-feeding Huo Miao.
  • She couldn't describe the feeling in her heart, but she had gotten used to it.
  • Before, she used to secretly hide and watch Huo Miao like this. At least now she didn't have to sneak around to watch him.
  • After Ye Luhe finished feeding the last spoonful of medicine, she was about to stand up. There was a preserved plum in a small dish on the tray, which she hadn't noticed. Usually, after Huo Miao finished taking the medicine, Ye Manxi would give him a preserved plum to balance the bitterness.
  • The medicine was bitter, and Huo Miao frowned. "No preserved plums today?" he asked.
  • Only then did Ye Luhe notice the preserved plum in the small dish. She quickly picked it up and put it in Huo Miao's mouth.
  • Huo Miao held her hand and lightly caressed her hand back with his thumb.
  • Ye Luhe pursed her lips, enjoying Huo Miao's intimacy.
  • Suddenly, Huo Miao's finger slid across her hand back, and he asked in confusion, "Luhe, didn't you injure your hand back?"
  • Ye Lvhe suddenly turned around and looked towards the door. Ye Manxi was startled and quickly took off her shoes, tiptoeing into the room. She tore off the adhesive tape from her hand and stuck it on the back of Ye Lvhe's other hand.
  • Ye Lvhe handed this hand to Huo Miao, whose fingers touched the adhesive tape. He sighed with relief and whispered, "So it was this hand, I mixed them up. Is the injury better?"
  • Ye Lvhe quickly nodded, and Ye Manxi quietly exited the room.
  • The porridge was still simmering on the stove in the kitchen. She went downstairs to check on the fire.
  • After a while, Ye Lvhe came downstairs and dragged Ye Manxi into the storage room, glaring at her fiercely. "Did you do it on purpose? You knew you had an injury on your hand but didn't say anything. Did you want to expose me intentionally? Let me tell you, Ye Manxi, don't play these tricks. If Huo Miao finds out, you won't gain anything! Remember, the person he loves is Ye Lvhe, and the person he wants to marry is also Ye Lvhe. You are just a substitute!"
  • Ye Manxi calmly looked at her without saying a word.
  • Ye Lvhe despised the way Ye Manxi looked at her. No matter how she bullied her, Ye Manxi always had this indifferent expression, which made it no fun to bully her.
  • Ye Lvhe glared at her. "Stop looking at me like that! If it weren't for me, you wouldn't even have a chance to get close to Huo Miao!"
  • Ye Manxi turned around, and Ye Lvhe was infuriated by her indifference. She forcefully grasped her arm. "Don't think you're the mistress of the Huo family! You are not allowed to approach Huo Miao during this period! I will come and monitor you every day. If I catch you harboring any ill intentions towards Huo Miao, I won't let you off the hook."
  • Ye Lvhe had always taken pleasure in pinching her, often leaving her with bruises all over.
  • She endured the pain, and Ye Lvhe finally released her when he grew tired. He cautioned, "Ye Manxi, remember your place."
  • Ye Manxi exited the storage room, and Ye Lvhe observed her figure, feeling constantly on edge.
  • No, once Huo Miao's eyes recover, she must drive Ye Manxi away, far away!
