Chapter 16 Did You Just Call Me?

  • Ye Manxi trembled, tears falling even more heavily. They landed on Huo Miao's outstretched hand, which he immediately caught.
  • "Why are you crying again?" he asked.
  • Ye Manxi raised her head, about to wipe away her tears with her sleeve, when she suddenly saw Ye Luhe standing at the half-closed door, staring at her fiercely.
  • From her angle, she could only see Ye Luhe's resentful eyes, which resembled something out of a horror movie.
  • Ye Manxi wiped away her tears, shook her head, and stood up straight, breaking free from Huo Miao's embrace.
  • She took the medicine bag to the kitchen to cook for Huo Miao. Ye Luhe followed closely behind her, and as soon as she put the medicine into the jar, Ye Luhe firmly grabbed her wrist.
  • Ye Manxi struggled, almost dropping the jar from her hand.
  • Ye Luhe sneered at her and said, "How do you feel? When Huo Miao said 'I love you' to you, did you really think he was saying it to you? No matter how you try to seduce him now, he is thinking of me, the person he loves."
  • Ye Manxi shook off her hand. Recently, Ye Luhe had been coming more and more frequently, almost every day, sometimes several times a day.
  • To put it bluntly, she was worried that Ye Manxi would really replace her.
  • "Ye Manxi, no matter what you do, you have to make Huo Miao realize that you are just playing games. I don't want to keep pretending to be dumb in front of him."
  • Ye Manxi typed a sentence on her phone: "Do you think treating an illness is that simple?"
  • "I'm not asking you to actually cure yourself. Since you have the ability to cure Huo Miao, he will definitely believe that you can cure yourself. Whatever I say, just do it, okay?"
  • Ye Manxi ignored her and continued to cook the medicine. Ye Luhe stared at her intently, "Tell me honestly, how long will it take for Huo Miao to recover?"
  • Ye Manxi didn't respond. It's impossible to determine the time so accurately. She knew that Ye Luhe didn't want to wait for even a second anymore.
  • "Ye Manxi, did you hear me?" Ye Luhe forcefully pulled Ye Manxi's hand. She was about to open the lid of the medicine jar, but being pulled by Ye Luhe, her hand trembled and accidentally knocked the jar off the stove.
  • The hot medicine inside the jar spilled out, and a lot of it flowed onto Ye Manxi's hand, causing her to let out a low groan of pain.
  • Although Ye Luhe clearly didn't get burned, she screamed loudly. At that moment, Huo Miao's voice came from upstairs: "Lühe, is that you?"
  • The sound of the medicine jar shattering on the ground attracted Mei Jie and the housekeeper.
  • They rushed in to take a look, but since Ye Luhe didn't dare to make a scene, they accompanied her with smiling faces and asked, "What happened?"
  • "Hurry up and clean up!" Ye Luhe whispered in a high-pitched voice.
  • At this moment, footsteps could be heard from outside, and Huo Miao, leaning on his blind cane, groped his way into the kitchen.
  • Ye Luhe quickly hid behind the housekeeper. Blurry-eyed, Huo Miao saw three shadows, and then a strong smell of Chinese medicine spread throughout the kitchen.
  • "Lühe," Huo Miao walked towards her, "What happened?"
  • "The medicine jar fell and broke." Mei Jie said, "It's nothing."
  • Huo Miao walked up to Ye Manxi and reached out to hold her hand.
  • Ye Manxi's hand was scalded by the medicine, with some areas quickly forming blisters. Unaware of this, Huo Miao touched those blisters, causing Ye Manxi to suck in a breath of cold air in pain.
  • "Are you hurt?" Huo Miao quickly pulled back his hand, "Did I hurt you?"
  • "It's nothing, it's nothing." Ye Luhe pinched Mei Jie hard. Mei Jie winced and said, "Just a few drops of medicine splashed on Madam's hand, it's not a big deal. I'll go get the medicine box to treat Madam."
  • After Mei Jie finished speaking, she walked out of the kitchen, leaving Ye Luhe standing in front of Huo Miao.
  • Huo Miao heard Mei Jie's footsteps leaving the kitchen, but he looked around and it seemed that there were still three people in the kitchen.
  • One was the housekeeper, one was Ye Luhe, and who was the other one?
  • Huo Miao immediately frowned, his tone becoming stern, "Who else is in the kitchen?"
  • Ye Luhe trembled, not daring to move. She didn't expect Huo Miao's eyes to have improved, able to discern how many people were around him.
  • She felt both happy and nervous, constantly gesturing to Ye Manxi.
  • Ye Manxi opened her phone and typed a line of text, converting it to voice for Huo Miao to hear: "There are only two of us, me and the housekeeper. What you saw should be a pillar."
  • "Just now, was it you who was calling?" Huo Miao couldn't see with his eyes, but his ears were very sensitive.
  • Ye Manxi typed another line of text: "Yes, I have been treating myself and have made some progress recently. I unexpectedly called out in a moment of urgency."
  • Huo Miao was excited to hold Ye Manxi's hand, but he was afraid of hurting her. His outstretched hand hovered in the air, unable to bring himself to grasp it. "Really, can your voice really recover?"
  • Taking advantage of the opportunity, Ye Luhe hid behind Ye Manxi and whispered softly.
  • A hint of a smile finally appeared on Huo Miao's cold and stern face. "Lühe, when that day comes and I can see, and you can speak."
  • Mei Jie walked in with a medicine box and said to Huo Miao, "Young Master, I'll apply the medicine to the Young Madam."
  • "Be careful, don't hurt her," Huo Miao cautioned. "Clean up the spilled medicine and don't let the Young Madam do these household chores."
  • Mei Jie rolled her eyes and thought to herself that if it weren't for Ye Luhe's money, she wouldn't bother with them.
  • Huo Miao walked out of the kitchen, Ye Luhe breathed a sigh of relief, and Mei Jie immediately withdrew her hand and threw the ointment into the medicine box.
  • Ye Luhe snorted coldly, took a step forward, then stopped and turned to Mei Jie. "You should apply the ointment to her!"
  • Mei Jie was taken aback. "Oh, Miss Ye is so compassionate, truly kind-hearted."
  • "Indeed," Ye Lühe smiled. "She is my sister, after all. Even if others are indifferent, I feel obligated to care."
  • However, Ye Lühe wasn't genuinely that compassionate. She was simply worried that Ye Manxi's hand would be seriously injured. Once Huo Miao regained his sight and noticed her unharmed hand, it would be difficult for her to explain.
  • Should she scald her own hand as well?
  • She wasn't foolish enough to do that.
  • After applying the medicine, Ye Manxi examined her hand and saw numerous scars of different sizes on the back. Some were burns, some were abrasions. Ye Lühe frowned and disdainfully remarked, "You are merely a servant girl responsible for tending to the fire. If it weren't for me giving you this opportunity, you wouldn't even have a chance with Huo Miao. Let me make it clear, Ye Manxi, during this time, ensure that you sincerely heal Huo Miao's eyes and have no hidden motives."
