Chapter 4 I Am The Heir Of The Huo Family

  • "What? Are you blind and deaf? Your beloved grandfather is dead, cousin. I feel sorry for you. From now on, no one will protect you, the blind man."
  • Huo Miao grabbed his collar, following the sound. "That can't be true!"
  • Huo Tianqi chuckled and pushed Huo Miao's hand away. "Why is it impossible? The body is in the morgue. The funeral will be held the day after tomorrow. Unfortunately, you are not qualified to attend."
  • "How did grandfather die?" In a fit of anger and despair, Huo Miao swung his fist towards Huo Tianqi, but he was too furious and saddened. Huo Tianqi easily dodged the punch.
  • Huo Miao's fist missed, and he fell to the ground.
  • Huo Tianqi's foot, clad in heavy boots, stepped on Huo Miao's fingers. "Your anger killed grandfather. Do you want to pay with your life?"
  • At this moment, Ye Manxi, who had already woken up, rushed towards Huo Miao and forcefully pushed Huo Tianqi away.
  • Huo Tianqi glanced at Ye Manxi and increased the pressure on Huo Miao's fingers. The joints of Huo Miao's fingers made a sound of bone friction. "Your wife is quite beautiful."
  • He stomped his foot with force and casually said, "Rest well."
  • He released his foot and walked out of the room. He said to the middle-aged woman standing at the door watching the commotion, "Mei Jie, take good care of the young master and young mistress. If they lose a single hair, I will hold you accountable."
  • "Yes, yes, young master."
  • Huo Tianqi took two steps and stopped, looking at Mei Jie with a smile that was not quite a smile. "What did you say?"
  • Mei Jie trembled and quickly corrected herself, "Mr. Huo, Mr. Huo."
  • Huo Tianqi laughed and patted Mei Jie's shoulder. "You've worked hard. Keep up the good work."
  • Huo Tianqi left, and the sound of his boots tapping on the wooden floor finally disappeared completely in this old villa.
  • Huo Miao's knuckles were broken and bleeding from being stepped on by his boots.
  • Ye Manxi held Huo Miao's hand tenderly, while Mei Jie, seeing the situation, turned her head and left as if she hadn't seen anything.
  • Huo Miao sat on the floor motionless for a long time, his eyes empty and pale, devoid of any vitality.
  • Ye Manxi brought her medicine box. She didn't bring anything when she married here, except for her precious medicine box.
  • She found disinfectant to treat Huo Miao's wound. It was actually quite painful to apply the disinfectant on the broken skin, but Huo Miao didn't react at all, as if he were a motionless stone sculpture without any sensation.
  • Ye Manxi had heard Huo Tianqi's words just now. Huo Miao's grandfather had passed away, and he was Huo Miao's only relative.
  • She held Huo Miao's hand and seemed to hear the sound of his heart breaking in his chest.
  • She empathized with his pain, feeling it as if it were her own.
  • With tears streaming down her face, she helped Huo Miao treat his wound. She held his wrist but couldn't find the words to comfort him.
  • She felt his pulse, which was unusually steady.
  • Ye Manxi came from a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and had received the true teachings from her grandparents since she was young. Her medical skills were superb.
  • She focused her mind and took Huo Miao's pulse. She kept doing it for as long as he had been sitting there motionless.
  • Huo Miao's eye disease was sudden, but from the pulse, there seemed to be hope for a complete cure.
  • Ye Manxi's heart raced with excitement. She shook Huo Miao's arm.
  • He remained immersed in sadness, completely unaware. It was only after Ye Manxi shook him forcefully that Huo Miao snapped out of it.
  • "Lvhe," he spoke sorrowfully, "my grandfather passed away on my wedding night."
  • Ye Manxi couldn't comfort him, so she could only hold his hand tightly.
  • "I will always remember today."
  • Ye Manxi looked at him sadly. Besides trying her best to convey all her strength and warmth to him, she had no other way.
  • She sat with Huo Miao on the cold floor for a while before helping him up.
  • She had something to say to Huo Miao, but she couldn't speak, and he couldn't see. How could she let him know what she was thinking?
  • Huo Miao sensed Ye Manxi's urgency and held her hand, asking her, "Do you have your phone with you?"
  • Ye Manxi nodded vigorously and squeezed his hand.
  • Huo Miao fumbled and wrote a phone number on a piece of paper, handing it to Ye Manxi. "Dial this number, and I'll speak."
  • Ye Manxi immediately dialed the number, and a male voice came from the other end, "Hello."
  • She placed the phone next to Huo Miao's ear, and he spoke in a low voice, "Jiang Jiye, it's me."
  • "Mr. Huo? Where did you get a phone? Where are you now?"
  • "Come to the old house now," Huo Miao said briefly.
  • "Okay, I'll be there right away."
  • Huo Miao returned the phone to Ye Manxi and told her, "He used to be my assistant and is currently the only person I can trust besides you."
  • Jiang Assistant arrived quickly, a young man in his early twenties, wearing a pair of black-framed glasses. When he saw Huo Miao, he burst into tears.
  • "Mr. Huo, the old master has passed away." He prostrated himself at Huo Miao's feet and cried for a long time.
  • Huo Miao reached out and touched his head. "I know, get up."
  • Jiang Assistant sobbed as he got up from the ground. Ye Manxi sympathetically handed him a tissue, which he accepted with gratitude, while also glancing at Ye Manxi.
  • He froze.
  • He knew that Huo Miao was getting married today, and he had also seen Ye Luanhe, but the girl in front of him was not the same as the elegant one he had seen before.
  • He stared at her in astonishment, and Ye Manxi put her finger to her lips and shook her head at him.
  • Jiang Jiye understood her gesture and kept his doubts to himself.
  • Huo Miao sat on a wicker chair, his grieving emotions no longer visible, replaced by a numb expression.
  • He said to Jiang Jiye, "My wife has something to say, ask her to write it down and let's see what she wants to say."
  • Ye Manxi swiftly penned a sentence on the paper: "I am a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, and there is a possibility of curing Miao's eye ailment."
  • Jiang Jiye's eyes brightened as he took the paper. He immediately turned to Huo Miao and exclaimed, "That's wonderful, Mr. Huo. Mrs. Huo claims she can treat your eye condition."
  • Huo Miao was slightly taken aback. He was aware that Ye Luanhe hailed from a family of traditional Chinese medicine, but he hadn't anticipated her possessing medical expertise as well.
  • Huo Miao nodded and grasped her hand. "Luanhe, I am willing to give it a chance."
