Chapter 6 Huo Miaozhi, You Disappear

  • Ye Manxi set out to gather various medicinal herbs for the prescription and purchased a clay pot for making Chinese medicine. However, she hadn't yet figured out how to prepare the medicine without arousing suspicion from Mei Jie and the others, fearing that they would report to Huo Tianqi.
  • As she walked with her head down, someone suddenly blocked her path and snatched the medicine package from her hand.
  • It was Ye Luhe, holding Ye Manxi's medicine package and examining its contents.
  • Ye Luhe had a habit of taking things from Ye Manxi. Whenever Ye Manxi had something valuable, she would snatch it away, including the jade pendant that Ye Manxi was wearing around her neck at that moment.
  • Ye Manxi was momentarily distracted. That jade pendant had been given to her by Huo Miao.
  • It was her most prized possession, but being in the Ye family, she had no support, especially since her mother had told her before she passed away that she could only protect herself by swallowing her pride. Therefore, she had no choice but to let the jade pendant be taken away.
  • Seeing Ye Manxi's gaze lingering on the jade pendant, Ye Luhe sneered, "Don't even bother looking at it. Even if you do, it's not yours. Hey, mute girl, let me ask you, can you really cure Huo Miao's eyes?"
  • Ye Manxi snatched back the medicine package and held it to her chest protectively, choosing not to respond.
  • Ye Luhe chuckled, "Even if you don't say anything, I already know. With your limited abilities, when do you think you can deceive me?"
  • Ye Manxi stared at Ye Luhe and instinctively hid the medicine package behind her.
  • "What's the point of hiding it from me now? You should be more concerned about Huo Tianqi's spies. If they find out, do you think there's still a chance to cure Huo Miao's eyes?"
  • Ye Luhe approached Ye Manxi and grabbed her wrist. "Mute girl, I can help you. If we join forces, I'll take care of those spies, and you can use all your skills to cure Huo Miao."
  • Upon hearing that Ye Luhe was offering her help voluntarily, Ye Manxi's dim eyes instantly brightened.
  • She knew that with Ye Luhe's assistance, they could deceive the spies and cure Huo Miao, saving them a lot of trouble.
  • "But I have a condition. Once Huo Miao's eye disease is cured, you must disappear immediately and never show yourself again. From then on, I will publicly declare that I am the one who cured him."
  • Ye Luhe's voice rang out again.
  • Indeed, Ye Manxi realized that she had overestimated Ye Luhe. How could someone as selfish as her help without any ulterior motives?
  • Ye Manxi shook off Ye Luhe's hand, knowing that there was no room for negotiation in this matter.
  • "Little mute, you've always wanted to take over your grandfather's clinic, right? If you agree to my conditions, I will plead with my father to allow you into the clinic!"
  • Her grandfather had established a career in traditional Chinese medicine, and the clinic was the only inheritance he left for her mother, representing all his hard work.
  • However, after her mother passed away, her father, Ye Zemin, took over the clinic. Its reputation had been declining ever since.
  • Ye Manxi's only wish was to reclaim the clinic and restore its reputation and prestige.
  • She couldn't let her grandfather and mother's hard work be destroyed by unscrupulous individuals.
  • So when she heard Ye Luhe's words, she hesitated and stopped.
  • "I just want you to marry Huo Miao for me. Do you really think you are the one for him? Everyone knows that Huo Miao only loves me. Little mute, tell me, what do you think his reaction will be when he wakes up and sees that you have replaced me and married him?"
  • Ye Luhe knew Ye Manxi too well. From childhood to adulthood, this little mute had always been easily manipulated by her.
  • Now, she was using the clinic that Ye Manxi cared about the most as a condition, and she didn't believe that Ye Manxi could resist.
  • Ye Manxi lowered her head, and her hand holding the medicine bag trembled involuntarily.
  • It was true. She knew that even now, Huo Miao only loved Ye Luhe.
  • And she was just a substitute.
  • Ye Luhe shook her shoulder, "Don't hesitate any longer, little mute. Don't you know? The clinic, under my father's management, is on the verge of closure and acquisition. If you agree to my conditions, I can plead with him. Don't you want to see the legacy your grandfather and mother dedicated their lives to disappear like this?"
  • What?
  • The clinic was going to be acquired?
  • Ye Manxi raised her eyes in shock. How could they allow this to happen!
  • "I've said everything I can to persuade you. If you still insist on your own ideas, then fine, within a week, just wait and see the clinic vanish!"
  • Ye Luhe deliberately put on a stern face and turned to leave.
  • But before she could take a step, her sleeve was pulled, and Ye Manxi felt a glimmer of hope in her heart.
  • Ye Luhe pretended to be calm and turned back, "What's the matter? Have you made up your mind? Will you agree or not?"
  • Ye Manxi bit her lip and nodded.
  • She wanted to save the clinic and cure Huo Miao. Ye Luhe was right; he didn't love her now, and he wouldn't love her in the future.
  • Ye Manxi walked past Ye Luhe with the medicine bag in her hand. Ye Luhe stopped her and said, "By the way, little mute, if Huo Miao asks why you're not wearing the jade pendant, just come up with an excuse to brush him off."
  • Ye Manxi returned to the house and busied herself with boiling Chinese medicine. Mei Jie and the housekeeper accepted Ye Luhe's money and pretended not to notice anything, following Ye Manxi's lead.
  • Ye Manxi spent the entire afternoon preparing the medicine and carefully carried it upstairs.
  • The Chinese medicine was bitter, so she bought a pack of plums that she liked when she bought the medicine. She placed one in Huo Miao's mouth and then administered the medicine.
  • Using a combination of medicine and acupuncture, she took out the silver needle that her grandfather had passed down to her and sterilized it with alcohol. She helped Huo Miao lie down on the bed and performed acupuncture on him.
  • Having been in a relationship with Ye Luhe for half a year, Huo Miao had no idea that she possessed such skill in medicine.
  • When she inserted the first needle, Huo Miao could feel it, but the sensation was clean and precise, and the pain was barely noticeable.
  • After finishing the acupuncture for Huo Miao, Jiang Jiye called.
  • He informed Huo Miao over the phone, "Mr. Huo, the funeral for the old master will take place at ten o'clock tomorrow at the Remembrance Garden."
  • "Understood." Huo Miao ended the call and extended his hand to Ye Manxi. "Lvhe, accompany me tomorrow to bid farewell to Grandfather."
  • Ye Manxi nodded eagerly.
  • The following morning, while Mei Jie went out to buy groceries and the housekeeper remained in the room watching TV without coming out, Ye Manxi secretly left the villa with Huo Miao.
  • After a drive that lasted over an hour, they finally reached the cemetery. It began to rain as soon as they stepped out of the car, and the raindrops landed on Ye Manxi's nose, sending a chilling sensation.
  • She tiptoed and positioned the black umbrella in her hand over Huo Miao's head.
  • Jiang Jiye awaited them at the entrance of the cemetery, his eyes red from crying.
  • "Mr. Huo," his voice was hoarse, "the old master has been laid to rest. Huo Tianqi brought a Taoist priest to the funeral, causing chaos."
  • "You may proceed," Huo Miao patted Jiang Jiye's shoulder, "it's inconvenient for you to stay here."
  • "Mr. Huo," Jiang Jiye turned around, "if you go like this, Huo Tianqi will..."
  • "It's alright," Huo Miao held Ye Manxi's hand with one hand and leaned on his blind cane with the other, walking towards the cemetery.
