Chapter 10

• “You’re making a terrible mistake, Sonia. That girl has nothing in common with us. Just because she’s pregnant with Ajax’s child shouldn’t mean we have to surrender everything at her feet,” Aunt Isabella snorted, her nostrils flaring as she rolled her eyes at what she considered the foolishness of her older brother’s wife.
• Sonia Halest simply shook her head. “That girl has a name, Isabella,” she sighed, closing the newspaper she had been peacefully reading before Isabella arrived and started spewing nonsense. “And it’s wrong to speak ill of people behind their backs. What are you, five?”
• Isabella merely frowned, but before she could open her mouth to respond, she caught sight of Ajax and Vincent descending the stairs from the corner of her eye. Instantly, she snapped her mouth shut and stood up from the couch, a too-sweet-to-be-true smile spreading across her face.
